Awww August sounds sooooo far away! Don't ya hate the wait!! Well we will have something to look forward to all summer. Lots of things, we have lots of chicks between us that will be laying about then! Funny, chick pics all spring, then late summer it will be ALL egg pictures haha!!

Last Tuesday I put all of my older chicks out (I had had them for 5 weeks, no idea how old they were when I got them from IFA but they were not day old) and I still had two 4 week old chicks and 1 2 week old chick in the basement. I got really tired of having chicks two places so I went against what you're "supposed" to do and put them all out. I put the ecoglow out in the coop as well for the youngest, but she doesn't go near it. She is much happier in the chicken pile at night. I check on her frequently and she has been out there for 4 nights so far and is fine, and all they do is poop on the ecoglow so I took it out today. The chicks (obviously) much prefer being in their bigger coop than being in their brooder. They are so fun to watch, they have a lot of personality. More than I was expecting from chickens.

Lisa, it will be egg pictures. I have so many that will start laying at different times. I am waiting right now to see who will lay first, my NH, or my Black EE. I know that EE's are supposed to take longer, but she is sure looking mature. I will have to look that date up. Boy she has that pretty puffy head along with the nice puffs on the cheeks. I have no idea what happened there for a while, but those puffy cheeks went away for a while. Crazy, But they are back! I hope our lavenders get more puffy. I think they will. Those girls sure are going to be small. Unless..that one of Wendy's is a girl too, which I think both of hers look like girls..but one is bigger. Guess we'll see when that pretty blue egg comes along..or that funky little first time crow.
Going to put my other BBS eggs in the lock down bator now. These are Cowgirls. I can hardly wait to see those.

cynthia is your spr being a little pig? silver is always eating, her crop is always full too, its huge! and she is getting so big! she is leghorn size right now. she may just grow to be my biggest girl in the coop and i have a bsl that is 9lbs...

Lisa, three of my lavenders hatched from pretty blue eggs. I'm pretty sure that at least two of them are mutts though- one has the slightest tinge of feathering on its' legs, and the other has pink toes. The third one has more potential as a pure lav though. I'd be willing to sell her to you though.

Hi from Lehi. have a question. last week i decided to turn of my light in the chicken coop at night cause my new young rooster was waking me up at 5:00 am. (now i get to sleep till 6:00). anyways my RIR of 26 weeks had just started to lay and had been laying for about a week and a half until i turned the light off. now i have only got 1 egg in a week from her and 1 yolk on the poop board. did i mess her up by turning of the light? or could it be the weather we have been having? The coop has a steel roof and it gets kind of loud during a down poor. she has all the food she can eat and has free range of my yard. she acts very healthy and nothing seems to by wrong.

That is so nice of you to be willing to do that! I was mostly curious---I am REALLY hoping to see if there are chicks in Idaho that have good blue egg laying potential Crossing fingers. If I decide I can't wait I may take you up on that haha now it is dancing in my head...the image of blue eggs....ahhhhhh

Hey there madchicken! Welcome!
My guess is the light threw her off, but she should get back to it after a short while.....at least with mine the light bulb burnt out once and I did not realize and they all went on strike for a bit. It does not take much to mess up their schedule Also when i introduce new girls they get all crabby and hold eggs in longer than normal.

That's interesting, because, I had a shell less egg too last week. I know all of my pullets are a bit too young yet to be doing that, so I think it was my new laying hen. Just a lot of egg yolk. I haven't had a light on for quite a while. It just may have been the weather. We never know why those chickens do what they do, but I am pretty sure I've seen weather make them change in their laying habits.
