Utah!

OMG ME ME ME ME!!!! Maybe. I definitely want them. Are they hard to hatch though? I need to make sure that whatever I try and hatch is generally an easier hatching bird (which is why I'm steering away from the BCM for the school).

I haven't noticed anyone cranky today, but the day is young.

I went to the school to get my laptop set up for the webcam, and Dolphin has hatched! I think she was just barely out when I got there. The kids are doing end of year exams right now, so I can't set up the laptop or do anything else to distract them, but I hope to have the camera up and going within the hour.

Oh and guys, get this. Several of our friends have chickens now, and they all built very, very fancy chicken coops, which makes ours look a little boring in comparison. Yesterday after dinner, dh said that since I won't let him buy me clothes for my birthday (I want to lose 20 lbs before I buy anything nice), he thinks he's going to build me a fancy coop and use the existing coop and run for meat birds.

Little does he know, I plan to do a chicken breeding operation instead in that coop. I think that will be more profitable. besides, I mainly only like chicken breasts, and if I'm raising meat chickens, I'll have to eat the dark meat.

Shinx, your hubby wants to build you a nice coop? Without you even asking? Go for it! And, you do not need to lose 20 lbs!!!!! On my goodness, when I think of when I saw you..I don't think you have 20 to lose, you would look waay to thin.
Well, will be watching for your cam. And, you will have to post pics every now and again while that coop is going up. :)

Honestly I can't even garantee they are fertile, seems like he has a so so hatch rate when he does it. There are a bunch of mixed bantam wyandottes I can pick up though, I didn't have time to get their eggs this morning.

Oh, that's right! BLRW. And I'm very sensitive to your hunt for those perfect blue egg layers! LOL!
LOVE the new pictures! I will have to come over 5 minutes early on Saturday just so I can take a peak at them.

I am taking care of a friends animals while he is gone...I was picking up eggs out of the cochin pen when I though maybe someone wanted to hatch? He has a mille fleur? Hen and rooster and a red hen in the pen...all are bantam cochins.
I have 7 eggs if anyone wants to pick them up...I would hatch them but I have alot on my plate at the moment with all the babies.
Let me know, I stuck them in a carton this morning
How long will you be picking up your friends eggs? I'd love to hatch some if there are any left over from what Sphinx gets. :) I'm totally loving my two little bantam cochin babies. Sphinx, I haven't heard that they are hard to hatch, so it may be a good match for the kiddos. :)

I will be taking care of his animals for about another week.
I will pick up all the eggs...I will keep the cochins separate from the wyandottes.
If you want some let me know when you can pick them up and what you want.

Unfortunately, I can't drive much or I would meet somewhere.

The Cochins don't seem to lay every day...only 7 eggs in 6 days. There are quite a few bantam wyandottes laying though. So there is quite a few of those.

Sphinx, Red has 2 icelandics from Chickenstock to pick up here after Saturday, maybe you guys could arrange a chicken shuttle for eggs and chicks. Sasha is here in Logan, and we are going to possibly drop Cindy's (blujems) pullet from Chickenstock off on our way back in town Saturday, so I could get the eggs, bring them here to my house with the icelandics, to save running around time..... save whatever 7 you want then send some with Sasha?? Just an idea :)

Hahaha, Sphinx, I was half-jokingly going to suggest to you last night that you try hatching cochins. They seem to be pretty good birds, from all that I've heard. I would have one, if I weren't terrified of her going broody 20 times a year. I've already got a couple broody-prone breeds, it seems, and by the time most of them are mature, that's gonna be a lotta eggs. Please no, no more babies right now! I'm going to be in over my head, depending on what that Marans hatches out this weekend (Saturday!!)

Sure, I could do that. I promise to change shoes and wash my hands well before being around anyone's birds, too, lol. Fair warning for everyone involved in the shuttle, Monday is going to be my best bet, and if that doesn't work out, it will be Wednesday night. I'll be strapped for time for most of the rest of the week. Sphinx, go ahead and poke me on a PM if you want to arrange something. I'd be happy to make an extra stop

Where do you live, Blujems? I'm actually going to be in Salt Lake/West Jordan this evening showing houses.

Lisa, I forgot (maybe?) to comment on your chick pictures. Love them. And I agree that last one is an award winning photo for sure.

Maybe I should have Lisa take the cochin eggs, have her breed a bunch, and I can start buying some eggs off her next year? Remember that I do have free hatching eggs owed to me from River Rock Family Farm in trade for my one rooster. ARGH! I don't know. I'm paralyzed with indecision.

Chick cam is live! Two are currently pipped (CJ and Bryan). The kids are losing their minds.

Here is Dolphin. She is a beautiful, dark chick.

Blujems is just north of me...Benson. Did you mean Sasha breed the cochins? Lol I do not want roosters where I live. Don't know if she is breeding.
If I get the eggs to my house Red said she could pick them up for you. Let us know......
