Utah!

Ok, have to ask, I'm thinking it was you that is getting those little marans and white EE mixes? I know, I'm terrible. But I was thinking someone else here wanted Silkies, or showgirls.
I have a lot of Silkies hatching right now. :)

If I don't mess things up too bad I have some sizzles hatching, some auracanas and some polish frizzles. I know the Auracanas are hard to hatch but I really wanted some more so hubby bought me an incubator. I ordered some sizzle eggs paid for 12 was sent 36 and the polish frizzle were a gift from some one. I thought I had enough eggs to fill the bator but ended up with too many so Christy from Sunnybrook loaned me another one. We will see if I succede with any as this is my first try. I will say it has been fun. I would like a couple of showgirls

Sasha, thank you for letting us know that there's something going on. I thought it was kind of quiet today. Lisa, just want you to know that your family is in my prayers.

Cynthia, yes, the chick I dropped yesterday seems to be fine. I'll check on her again when I get home from work. I about died when she got loose from me like that. I'll be sure to keep both hands under her from now on.

hey cynthia how is your spr looking? i think we may get eggs by early july or late june. mine does not squat yet but she sure is red in the face and her comb and wattles are growing big! the buff is growing big too :)

Mine doesn't look near as ready. I'm even thinking end of July, early Aug. I should post pics when I get a chance. She sure is big. She is getting more red, but her body still hasn't filled out in the skirt area. Maybe she won't. You will let us know when that egg comes! We should have a guessing contest..even though now we have both stated how much longer we think ours has. lol..

Anyway, I have all of my chicks sold..even the Silkies that hatched today. I am just keeping them for a few days to make sure they are ok.

I sold all of the Olive eggers, and the white mixes now that I wanted. I ended up keeping two of the white EE's and one of the blue Olive eggers. Two of the last Silkie hatch from catdance, and I think I will keep two of these that I just hatched. Now, come on showgirls! Sundance, are you wanting a couple of the showgirls if I get them all to hatch? That will be the trick..I swear, they are as hard to hatch as those Auracanas! Big vaulted heads. Can't turn in the shell too easily.
4 will go into lockdown Thur. And Thurs. I will have more Welsummers...they are pretty birds. And lay the prettiest egg out there. I love their eggs. Always different every time they lay. Oh yeah, I kept one of those too..lol..but the one I kept is from one of those real pretty eggs that I posted, from ruth..that's what Red took home with her yesterday for her mom. Hope they lay the same pretty dark ones like they came from!

Yes I very much want a showgirl or two. Hopefully girls

I have a candling question. I candled my eggs last night. There were a few that did not look like the others. I could see the blood vessels but not the chick development. Does that mean they stopped progressing?
Blood vessels=Good. No blood vessels=bad. If you can see veining, it's probably great. It's when that disappears that things have gone wrong.

Lisa darling, I'm very worried about you.

mine has that barn red face. the wattles and comb are not full grown yet i do not think but they may even still grow after she lays, its what my other girls did. who knows when she will lay but my bet is sooner than later.

ok more questions, these eggs are a week away from hatching. Some of the eggs I can see the chicks kind of. In i\other eggs just blood vessels. the appear to be behind the others, is that normal

When they get close, sometimes that's all I go by are the blood vessels. If you watch closely, you can sometimes see them move. Or, if the air sac looks big enough, don't worry, just put them in lockdwon..the airsac says a lot. If you don't see an air sac, then it's probably no good. If you only have a week before hatching, you can wait until the day before to candle again.
On the showgirls. Did you know that they are very hard to sex, other than vent sexing? Most people have to wait for the crow or the egg. You can't do the feather testing on them..they have very different feathers! Go have fun on the Silkie and Showgirl threads and see what I mean. A lot of people are asking what sex they think their chick is, and you will always read, it's too early. I tried on my older one, there are some that think it's beginning to look like a girl, she is 13 weeks old. So, luck of the draw..and I'll see what I get to hatch out of the 4. I want another, just in case the one showgirl I have is a boy. Will know in another month I hope. I do have more coming. Putting those in my new bator. It worked really well for me, so I am hoping it will work for these hard to hatch babies.

Y'all are welcome...I may run over to Lisa's house tomorrow afternoon...I'm currently in Wendover, NV. Took a road trip with my mom, Aunt and grandpa. Grandpa hasn't been doing well at all and has been begging us to take him, so we have indulged him.
Being away from my family used to make me really anxious...but now the girls are older and can take care of themselves so now I'm nervouse about being away from my chickens! LOL :) our poor Polish Roo, Rocco (we got him from Lisa) got the back of his hat ripped out yesterday. :( almost no blood, as the roots were left intact. Very strange. I almost think maybe one of the goats took a mouthful because they were in the pasture together. We're keeping him cooped with just the other Polish for now and let him heal a bit.
