Utah!

Thistles suck but I put my chicken pen where they were growing in my back yard, No more Thistles. I'm leaving June 25 for a 10 days alaska cruise. I am lucky that my daughter is going to take any babies I hatch and I am paying the neighbor boys to sleep at the house so that I don't have to board the dogs. They are going to take care of adult cats and all the chickens. The kittens are going to friends. I am looking forward to the cruise
Oh, that sounds like soooooooo much fun, Sundance!! I've known several people to go on Alaska cruises and just loved it. There's certain times that are very buggy, so make sure to bring bug repellent.

I'm seriously tempted to try and corral them around some of the worst patches of thistles. Right now, I'm continuing to earn my "meanest mom ever" badge by making my kids help dig them out. I think if I just let them go, they wouldn't go to the thistles, so I'd have to contain them a bit.

Anyone have a Cochin Bantam Hen for Sale? We had to get rid of our little Cochin because he turned out a he. My daughter raised him as a chick and wants another Cochin. Anyone have a hen they can part with?

I think Arlene in Pleasant Grove has Cochin Pullets. I will have some sizzles hatch this weekend I hope but won't know the sexes

edut, because I feel guilty after writing it! It doesn't hurt to go look at chicks, especially if you know what to look for health wise. :)

Lisa, that is one huge egg! Looks like the one I had from my Partridge pullet, her first egg. Remember? And it was a double yolker. Did you candle that one?
A baby started? Like Shinx said, if you are seeing veining..you have a baby started. Let's hope it gets going more.

I got my eggs today too. More showgirls. I had one that was weepy at the top of the round end. Decided to open it to see if it was fertile. It wasn't. At least it didn't look like it was, or had been. I'm not sure if an egg has been damaged during shipping, if it would effect the look of the bullseye area? Anyway, no bullseye. I'm just going to go ahead and set them tonight.

Sundance, you get to go on a cruise. Something I've always wanted to do. Had many a trip outside the country, but not a cruise. Sounds like fun. Have fun! You are lucky you have everything set up for things to be taken care of at home.

Can I make a suggestion..and I will make it publicly, so that should say something. Please, don't buy from the gal in Pleasant Grove! Too many friends of mine have done that, me too, with very bad results, the worst being, that one friend had bought quite a few, and most died. Of what, she's not sure. She has chickens, knows how to take care of chickens, but they died..and so did another friend of mine. This lady will not work with you. She just said sorry this happened.
Of course I haven't been back, this was about 2 years ago for me, last year for the friend that had a lot die. Thought I would let you know. I don't like to bad mouth, I don't think I am, just a warning for those that aren't aware. I'm sure she has sold to many that are happy.

Yes she does not do bantams. Only standard and she only sells pullets. I bought a few from her this year and they were all fine and all lived. Not sure what the problem was last year. There is also a guy named Jason that has cochins in pleasant grove. I bought some Barnvelders from her in Feb.
