Utah!

Thanks, Happy. If you can think of anything that may help, I would appreciate it!!

Onto better news........ When I went to open coop this morning, look what I found:

My 1st cayuga duck egg!!

IaianUtah, that's such a pretty egg. I've decided if I ever get ducks, it'll be cayugas. I think they're just gorgeous.

Is the goose lady in California? What I would suggest as part of your plan to help is specify exactly what you want. Say: I'm looking for people to give a financial contribution to go towards testing/transportation, I'm looking for people to adopt, especially if you are local to XYZ are and can pick up, etc etc. I think it's admirable that you are trying to help out.

Out of curiosity, what is the hangup on her farm not being NPIP certified?

Anyone in Southern Utah or coming to Southern Utah Wanna Trade?

Meet Drumstick, she's a purebred banty cochin hen. She is a little nutty but still adorable and shiny. Drumstick is around 2 years old. I'd like to trade her for a different bantam hen thats of equal or better value. Please let me know what you have, I'd also take $25 for her, because I'd prefer a trade (so she's semi-expensive).

Here are her pictures:

PMs preferred but post here if you want to

Iain, that egg is stunning! How lovely! I will keep an ear open for anyone in my area who's open to having geese. And as an added no-no, I'll ask the boyfriend if he has ever considered having geese..............hahaha, I'm naughty

Thanks, all. I'm pretty sure that she's a RIR, but it's kind of funny. She's the one that likes to follow me around and stand on my foot. RIR, following me, Red, get it?

Plus, I know I have another good layer, and I've always wondered what their personality was actually like. I know my boyfriend likes that breed - they were all he used to get from Cal Ranch. So all in all, I think this is a win/win situation. I'll get an actual Welsummer for myself some other time.

Cynthia, how old are the girls you need to place? I have a neighbor who may be interested in some of them, provided they're at least 8 weeks old.

Ah, poor Stevie. I woke up in the wee hours of the morning today because I was hungry, so I got up to get a snack and while I was at it, I thought I should check on the chickens. I looked out the window and could see that one group was out of water, so I went out to get their bottle and fill it back up. The cage they are in is a very large type of wire kennel with a tarp over the top to protect them from the elements and give them some privacy. When I got to the front of the cage, I found that my Blue Wyandotte cockerel, Steve, had found a long, loose thread on the tarp and tried to eat it. Well, it didn't get down his throat at all. Rather, it seems to have twisted around his tongue and gotten stuck, so he was about as good as a hooked fish. I looked at him and could tell he wasn't feeling that great, either, by the way his head was pulled into his feathers. I grabbed him, sat down, held his beak open, and carefully worked the thread off of his tongue and out of his mouth. He was such a good boy about it, too. He didn't struggle or try to bite me or anything. I could tell as soon as it was out that he was feeling better. I'm so glad I woke up with the munchies and checked on him! He's doing just fine now

Thanks!!! I have an unrelated breeding pair of cayugas (currently separated), and they are my clear favorite of all my ducks. If you decide you want cayugas, I will be able to offer hatching eggs soon.

Yes, the goose lady is in Cali. Help with paying for vet testing or taking a road trip to smuggle the birds in small numbers back here would be great. Then, I will need people to adopt them. I will be able to ship nationally once weather cools.

She never knew to get NPIP tested. Now that she is going out of business, Cali won't NPIP certify since the flock is leaving Cali. In any event, it takes 2-3 months to get NPIP certified in Cali, and since they privatized the program, we still have to pay a vet to draw blood for the testing. The easier solution is to have them tested per Utah entry requirements, obtain a 30 day health certificate, and then Utah will give me an entry permit. Since I would have the current health certificates, I can then turn around and get my NPIP here without any problems.

That is the current goal, but everything is still quite fluid.

Iain, you might want to set up some way that you could accept donations from folks to help with the vet fees. I believe you can do donations through Paypal, or you might be able to set up something with your financial institution. The second one is iffy, though. I'm not sure what a bank or credit union would be willing to do with this, but it's worthy a try, I suppose.

Got a picture of my Welsummer/RIR (it feels weird now calling her a RIR)

Here she is next to my GLW. If she's not a RIR, she's having one heck of an identity crisis!

Red, that is what I am finding tricky.... a recipient account for donations to vet bill. Best case scenario the vet will personally take payments via credit card. I guess we could go through the lady's paypal account. I also talked to Best Friends who said they may be willing to help with vet bill. If so, that would be fantastic!
