Utah!

Iain... good luck finding homes for those gees, very cool, too bad I don't have 50 acres for bird adoption=)

Red... your story about stevie is awesome, but I have to admit, also a little funny ( especially after reading the tongue-tied part=), and by golly, that's an RIR if I ever saw one=) She has really nice color, that's for sure!!

Thanks Dalooras. I think she's one of my favorite girls. She's quite chatty, and I like listening to chatty chickens, for some reason.

Iain, this is my personal vote, but go for something through Paypal. I know that you can claim donations made through there on taxes, and it would be safer for people donating, too.

I think paypal would be the easiest for sure.

Red, that is so funny to see the RIR (sorry) and the GLW together- that's my january hatch, and my RIR was supposed to be a GLW, and they look exactly like your too.

I'm glad all ended well with Stevie, but the tongue tying thing is a little funny/horrifying.

I came home from alaska to crowing in my backyard, I saw the culpret today, It is one of my Auarcanas. He is a beautiful rust and gray color, I can't have roosters where I live. Is anyone interested in him? I also just hatched 3 others so if anyone wants to breed them There is a chance I could get you a pair. I also have a few other eggs in my incubator, Rusty has the beautiful Auracana tufts but he has a tail. The chicks are too little yet to see if they are rumpless or not. Please let me know asap.

http://thebloggess.com/2011/06/and-thats-why-you-should-learn-to-pick-your-battles/ This is a hilarious blog post about giant chickens, but there is some off color language, so if you don't like swearing, don't read it. You can look at the pictures though, just don't read the captions, where most of the swears are.

I read this this morning on my phone... was laughing til I cried! Hub had to see what I was laughing at - I rarely laugh that hard - took phone and read it too - we laughed and laughed... I got accused of similar tactics. Should edit and post it... It was hilarious.

This rainbow went from end to end..a real pretty full one
Cynthia - sorry about your Showgirls. I know you were excited for them. Our friend passed away on July 4th, leaving her husband with five children, 14 years to 2, and I saw this rainbow on the 5th. Remember that old song "I'll build you a rainbow"? Its been an emotional few days.

Okay, now I must speak of something which has been weighing heavily on my mind for some time. Gather round, friends, and I shall tell you of my fears over my Welsummer..................actually being a RIR!

Okay, okay, drama aside, I really am concerned (and have been for some time now) that my Wellie was a mislabeled RIR at the feed store. Which stinks, if it's true, because she was a whole dollar more than the other chicks! Sheesh

I just Googled some pictures of Welsummer hens, and then RIR hens to compare. Then I looked up pictures of the chicks of both breeds. Yep, I'm about 70% sure right now that I actually got a RIR

Cynthia, the Welsummer chick I got from you looks strikingly different from my supposed 'Welsummer'.

I'm putting up a few pictures so that anyone who wants to can weigh in. I'd love to have some other opinions, at this point. She's been such an awesome chicken, and while I'd be disappointed not to have a dark egg layer, I still love my prissy girl.
We had that happen last year. Bought 30 Cornish X from Cal Ranch as our first experiment with meat birds. Imagine our surprise at four weeks when half were skinny and had no color in their combs. We got a bunch of Leghorns! I gave many away, kept a few and have crossed them with the Amer roo too see what they lay. The most surprising is how broody they've been. Two have hatched eggs, and a third was broody tonight. They are barely a year old. I thought "broody" had been bred out of them!

HERE IS A WONDERFUL SITE ON HOW TO KEEP YOUR BIRDS SAFE FROM THE HEAT! IT ALSO HAS MANY OTHER THINGS YOU CAN LOOKE INTO. I WAS SOO WORRIED ABOUT MY RED SEXLINK YESTERDAY. SHE HAD THAT PALE COLOR THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT IN THIS ARTICLE WHILE SHE WAS IN THE NEXT BOX. I HAVEN'T GOTTEN THE FROZEN WATER OUT YET. WHAT AM I THINKING?! I DID THAT LAST YEAR, KEEPS THE WATER SO NICE AND COOL FOR THEM, THEY LOVED THAT. I ALSO WANT TO COOL DOWN MY NESTING BOXES LIKE THEY SUGGEST AFTER SEEING MY POOR SEXLINK, I THOUGHT MAYBE I WAS GOING TO COME HOME TO A DEAD GIRL AS WE WERE LEAVING WHILE SHE WAS LAYING. YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW HAPPY I WAS TO SEE HER OUT IN THE YARD WHEN WE CAME HOME. SHE IS ONE OF MY SWEETEST BIRDS!

That is a great site. I really enjoyed reading her blog. Did you notice her curtains in her coop.
