Utah!

If I HAD to choose between American fork and sandy, I would pick sandy. But I honestly would have a hard time living anywhere other than summit county in the Park City area.

Oh, I didn't know you lived there! It is nice there! Cold in the winter? Not as warm in the summer though?

Yep. It is beautiful here. Plus, I will take the extra snow to not have the triple digit death temps of the valley.

I'm so so behind!
Welcome all you new chicken people

I know there is so much I have missed but I have been busy saving my chickens from this heat!!! I have three silkies that have gone broody and the coop has been so hot! I was really worried I would lose them. I guess I was complaining so much that my DH went out and bought a are you ready for this cheap air conditioner.

Yes I am now one of those chicken people. It just lowers the temperature about 10 to 15 degrees. This summer has been harder on me with this heat I guess it is because I have been up north so much. You can't beat the summers in Idaho!

Cynthia---There are LF and bantam polish. Both! The LF are a little smaller than your standard hen though. about 2/3 to 3/4 size. Personally I prefer the LF, they are broody less. They can be skittish, due I think to the lack of sight.....they scare easy. They are however very sweet and none of mine pick on anybody. The bantams seem to be more skittish, the LF much more calm.

They are way less broody than silkies, and lay bigger eggs....some breeders brag that their LF polish lay standard large size eggs, and they lay more frequently as well. Remember Dick Horstman, you got your pencils from him? (some were broken then he sent you chicks I think?) He has show quality black white crested LF polish, very very nice, and says they lay large white eggs, and several per week.

My favorite is the Tolbunt. They look like calico colors, similar to mille fleur but the yellow is more dark orange. Super cute. I have got a few people I am thinking about contacting next spring to see if I can hatch one for myself. Maybe.....the crele sound fun, Sasha had those wyandotte eggs that color and her little Clay is adorable......now I have sworn no more chicks then you go and hatch Polish....TORTURE~~!

Let us know what ya get, I am excited to see!

Aunt Hattie - Your husband is awesome! I would keep that one. I'm glad that you have something to lower the temperature in your coop for those sweet little Silkies. They are in there working hard for you and they deserve to be comfortable. I love people who take such good care of their animals!

Thanks! Wow, you have come to know your Polish. If they lay like my leghorn, that would defiantly be a keeper. Plus the my kids would love it. I don't mind that my Miss Piggy isn't as friendly as the others, but she is friendly for a leghorn.
Polish lay nice size eggs? hmmm..sounding good. Now to get them to hatch, hope they aren't hard to hatch like the Silkies and showgirls. Oh, and I guess Marans.

Gee Sundance..I forgot that the eggs that I won will include two maran eggs...again. Just like last time, the gal threw in a couple of marna eggs..and I sold the two. Maybe you can wait and see if they hatch, then you could have those. They should be here tomorrow. Hope so, they are coming a ways. My polish are coming from Oregon. Not too far, and they are marked for shipping already. Now I am anxious now to see the size of the eggs. Will post a picture of them when they get here..and, the olive eggs that I get..I hope they are the dark ones.

Now, I have to look up the Tolbunt for fun.
Oh wow, they are a nice color. If you hatch some next spring..will have to see how they look. :))

Ahhh, Lisa knows how to work those beautiful charms of hers.

I'm going to tell my husband about that air conditioner now! I've seen the small ones for a hundred bucks at cal ranch. I knew someone that had one in their living room window because their swamp cooler went out. I couldn't believe how cold it was in there! I wonder if the chickens would come to the coop though, during the day. I know it would be great for them while they lay. My poor girls are in there just panting away. Like I said, used the frozen water bottles today. Glad the girl that has the hardest time used that nest box. She was a lot fast today than she was the last couple of days. She worried me.
I am now getting 4 or 5 eggs a day.

They are cool huh! baregretchen and Illia have some.....Illia had posted pics a while back and I pm'd her about eggs then just never got around to it. Might have to try them, sure are cool looking :) It will be fun to see how yours turn out, and what size the eggs are, were they LF then? My two girls are both LF but only hatchery stock so I do not know what kind of eggs I will get. Hattie's were bantam, so they will be smaller.

4-5 eggs a day! Hooray!
