Lisa..Congrats on your blue egg! Copy cat! lol...you know I'm teasing, and that I am very happy that you finally got your blue egg. Now, I want my green egg..have some of those in an incubator now.

Ok, speaking of incubators..I have those blue eggs in there now, they are due to hatch on Thur. Well, one decided to pip early, not so uncommon, bad thing is..it's at the wrong end. What's up with that? Why am I having these bad luck problems? I don't have that happen very often in the large eggs. I notice it at 3 this afternoon. Keep checking to see if it is doing any more, I just checked again, and it has made the hole a bit bigger. Hoping because it is a large egg, that it will make it through that end. I guess, if it hasn't done much more by tomorrow afternoon, I will have to help. Pretty blue egg!

When I was down at Anns I asked for some hatching eggs for a friend that had a broody hen. She did however have a beautiful blue egg that I decided to keep. Went to put it in bator and dang I dropped it. It cracked so I fried it and ate it. Oh well its hell to get old
Oh, no! Sorry you dropped your blue egg. I'm afraid I'm going to be so excited when one of my girls lays for the first time, I'll do the same thing!
I got it! yay! It is not very big, but better than my Australorps. This one is from Zoey my Blue Wheaten Ameraucana i brought back from Chickenstock, that had crazy messed up toes. bless her little cute heart. It only took 4 hours.......sheesh

Oh, such handsome boys! I really do think the Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana roos are some of the most handsome. :) Love all your colored eggs!

we r all crazy I'm here at rodeo typing to byc. I read that tylan worksso i put that in the water she is still alive though

When you use those kinds of anti-biotics, there is a withdrawl time. With Denagard there isn't. You don't have to wait to eat the eggs. When you are home and have time to read, look it up on the sites here.
You will have to be careful now, that you aren't wearing any clothing that you have been near your chickens in, when you go to others homes with chickens. Oh, and shoes. I would be treating them all at this point, if, they have been eating/drinking together. Separate her anyway. Make sure you give them pro-biotics while treating. I give it to them anyway once in a while..good for the gut..but where she is getting tylan, she needs some..good plain yogurt, no fruit..plain. They love it.

66mustang, welcome to BYC. I'm sorry that your buff orpington turned into a he. We're neighbors; I'm in north davis county too!

Sundance, I'm sorry that your chicken is sick. I hope she gets better soon. Crap; I'm going to be out of town Thur/Fri, so I won't be around to say hi. :-(

Flies: I feel like they're not nearly as bad this year. I desperately need to buy some DE though.

Lisa, you got your blue egg!!!!!!! Yay!!!

delarooshens, gorgeous eggs. Love the colors.

My lavender ameraucana that I got from Cynthia (the first one, not the second) squatted for me today! I hope this means she's getting close. She could just be teasing me though.

I hear you on the changing clothes/shoes. The worst thing of all is Marek's. My friend in Wyo got that in her flock from going to a poultry show and coming home with the bug on herself. She washed hands and shoes even but thinks it was from her clothes. That stuff is nasty, I was reading some stuff Seminolewind was saying and it stays/lives in your dirt for 7 yrs and you lose birds over and over once you have had it. And vaccination helps, but they still can get it....and carry it....and it just goes on and on. It does not transfer to chicks from eggs, thank goodness! I read it is the most fatal between 8 - 12 weeks old, that is often when they show the signs. And if the sick bird has been in a spot and a healthy bird goes to that spot that is all it takes. Or on your hands, clothes, shoes like you said. Scary stuff. Once you have it the only way to permanently rid yourself of it is to cull all your birds and wait 7 yrs. I would be mortified! Ok so are we all scared to death now or what?! There was a whole bunch of posts on the polish threads about it a week or so ago, 2 or 3 pages of people who have had it. I guess they are more susceptible. Had me shaking in m y boots! There is so much conflicting information too it makes it all hard to decipher, this is just what I have gathered and learned from my friend. I wonder if this is what was happening to corvidae? She was going to get necropsies, I need to call her and see how they went. She lost so many birds, I felt so bad for her!

I'm away from the computer for a few days and there's no way I can read 333 posts to catch up... if anyone asked me a question.. I apologize and ask you to please send me a pm..

Anyway, had to share a few pictures of some wierd eggs we have gotten the last couple of weeks.. The tiny one is the smallest chicken egg I have ever seen...

Lisa, your blue egg!

Congrats! If you find out how Corvidae is doing, will you please let us know? And if you decide not to call her, I might get her number from you. I don't care if she kills me. I'm worried.

birdman, quail make the cutest noises. I'm not sure if it classifies as a crowing sound, but it's sure fun to hear. We get them in our neighborhood here, and I never knew what a quail sounded like until one camped out on top of our chimney and started calling.

Sundancen, your poor girl! Somehow, I forgot to comment about that. Hope she gets better soon, and that the other ones stay well. Oh, and I am jealous that you got to go to the rodeo!

Well, I don't feel too happy right now. Sphinx, I decided to process that last cockerel I got from you. Before the predators got him. Well, the method I tried didn't work as well as I'd hoped, since he refused to calm down, and I felt bad. It was supposed to be a very quick, painless method for the bird. Luckily, my boyfriend was supervising and stepped in to finish the job quickly. I don't like animals suffering. I'm going to be doing a lot more research before I have to send any more birds to freezer camp.
