Lisa...Glad you finally got your Blue egg....Couldn't tell from the pics...Is it as blue as you wanted?

Birdguy...Those are some strange eggs.

And I Love the Wheaten and Blue Wheaten Roosters...I am loving mine.


I don't know what to think about my Cuckoo Marans.

They will NOT get into the nest box.......
.
All their eggs have been soft shelled for the last few weeks...

They have unlimited food and unlimited oyster shell. Plus Goats milk and scraps from the house.
Also get crushed egg shells from the house.

What am I missing? I don't know what to do with them.

Red, sorry to hear processing did not go as planned. I really don't think I will do any of that, I thought about it but unless I am starving and in survival mode I am opting out. Hope the next one goes better!

Yes, it is just the 2 of them... I am hoping they get better, but I don't know.

The other 2 are both laying again now that it is a little cooler. The SLW is laying some nice big eggs and so is the Ameraucana....And they are in the nest box.

I am excited for your blue egg....Hope it gets more blue...

Anyway, had to share a few pictures of some wierd eggs we have gotten the last couple of weeks.. The tiny one is the smallest chicken egg I have ever seen...

Who laid that tiny one? A bantam I hope. I've seen a few funny eggs like that in my time. Soft shells. My Ameraucana started eating oyster shell..I'm repeating this because you probably didn't read the post, but anyway, I said to her, why are you eating that silly girl? You aren't even laying yet. And guess what she did the next day? Now, my RIR is eating it, and she hasn't laid yet. Getting red and is old enough for sure though. Any time. Eggs! I love the eggs, with hard shells!

Blu, it seems like I've read about the soft shell problem before. I'll see what I can dig up on it.

I got one of my blue Ameraucanas back. Not sure I will keep her. She should be laying in two or three months. Very pretty blue. Should get pictures later.

Ok Cynthia, I'm curious as to what all happens when you get a bird back? Are you trading, or did the previous owners just not want to deal with them, was it a bad home, etc.......?

my gut is saying its an issue with it being too hot for them, the stress of the heat can make them do that i think and looking at all the angles that is what it makes me think this. try frozen water bottles in the nest boxes maybe? just work extra to keep them cool. i could be wrong but thats just what my gut says
