Utah!

thanks everyone. its my first gun so i am super excited about it, they did not have it but were able to order it. its a mossberg tactical .22 with a red dot scope and 25 rd mag, it has a ar 15 look to it with the rails that give you loads of options for add ons. very good value for the money too. i am into knifes too, i always have at least one on me lol. my favorite is my gerber lmf ll knife. oh and i am a big time collector of zippo lighters, always have one on me, i have some i use and others i would never dare to use because they are worth so much.

Contgrats on your new gun. You got your first gun..now, where are you going to practice with it? We have so many places people go around here, but, we do have a shooting range right close, up the canyon from us. We can hear them practicing at times when there are a lot of people at it up there!

Your baby is still alive this morning, Does not appear to have made any improvement over night. I gave her some 50% dextrose water last night. Will repeat this am and also give her a pain shot.

Pink! I love it!!

I used to shoot often..I am a rifle person. When my husband first saw me shoot..he was shocked. I could hit the target! LOL..I had been shooting a lot with my first former husband, hunting deer, pheasant, quail. I don't like shotguns though. And probably because I am not good with them :/

I saw a pink rifle for sale not too long ago..I told my hubby I needed that gun! :p It just made me smile, like a burgler could do when sundance pulls out that pink gun. I would love to see that gun.

Fun toy Brad! And who knew you packed heat too Sundance haha, and pink heat at that

I have thought about it, I used to belong to the gun club and we would go shoot skeet and targets all the time, that has been awhile....we just keep one here at the house for intruders, then the few my husband likes to collect. We both keep wanting to sign up for the concealed carry class but it never works with our schedule, my DH has been asking me to check the next class time again. I kind of miss the club, lots of nice people there. Just no time for that with the kiddos crazy schedule! I also am a bitty bit scared of carrying a handgun around. I think I might leave that to my DH, even if I get the permit with him. I more like the shotguns for recreation, I am not a hunter at all. Fishing yes, hunting, not so much.
I got 10 eggs yesterday from 9 that are now laying, so somebody else has started....and every single girl did it yesterday wow! I wonder if this heat today will throw everybody off now. I was pretty excited the new ones all synched up and did one on the same day, some of those are not laying very regular yet. My Zoey curly toes has given me 2 double yolkers now, they are looooong and skinny, not really voluminous because they are so thin. Just over an inch around and about 3 inches long. They are looking more blue again.

The lav's are still quite green. Sphinx I sure hope your lav pulls through, I want to see one of these little girls lay blue!

X's 2 on seeing a blue egg from one of the lavenders.

I thought that all Ameraucanas were supposed to lay blue. ?

Lisa..I used to fish all the time too...I know red does. Loved Fish Lake..and back in the 70's..Lake Powel!

10 eggs? Are you going to sell eggs now? Or maybe you already do. I sell a couple of doz. a week now again, since I have some of my pullets started. I have another girl that should start here soon. She is squatting for me, when I catch her. And, she is starting to come up to me. It's fun getting those double yolkers when they start to lay.

Sphinx, sorry you are having those delays in closing. I remember how that goes, and we were on the selling of ours, and buying end. No fun when something comes up. Man I hope that lavender pulls through for you. Even if she ends up with a limp, she can be a great layer. I think I mentioned that about one of mine..and egg a day for quite a while now since she got started. I didn't hatch her myself, I will probably place her or sell her as some of my own start. She is a sweet little BO. Waaay friendly, best watch your buttons on your shirt if you kneel down to pet her..she loves buttons!
My Cleo..black Ameraucana, has only missed two days since she started laying...pretty sad when you know what chicken lays what, and how often, ey? lol... I love it.

CYnthia, your black girl is doing great! So far of my 4 Am/Ee's that started, The curly toes is the best. But not everyday at all. 4-5/week maybe. My GSL has laid everyday though, and they are already getting big....and the peanut m&m egger australorp has not missed a day. They are slightly bigger now but not much, not like the GSL. I have been selling eggs, but the new ones are all still too small, the GSL's are getting close enough to put in the selling eggs, pretty soon :) the lavender's eggs are so so so tiny, very cute little things. We are eating the little ones and selling the bigger ones. Right now we have 4 girls laying sell-worthy eggs, then the doubles coming from the new layers, a couple a week.

They better do good, Momma is making a wish list for next Spring. A few will have to go lol!
So far I want a Tolbunt Polish, then now (thanks Cynthia lol) I want a white with black crest like your pictures!, White Amer. and a Blue Amer. and something else Red (but not RIR). That is it so far.......so far.....

So I'm driving up to Steve Regan today to get some DE. What should I use to shake it out, preferably something I can get at Walmart or similar. :) What all do I do with DE, do I need to clean my coop out and put it all around then put fresh shavings in or can I just sprinkle it on the shavings that are already in there? Sprinkle it in the run? On the poop board? How do I provide a dust bath for the hens, just in like a kitty litter type pan? How often should i dust the chickens themselves?

Sorry for all the questions, we have a lot of flies out there and I'm hoping that some DE will help cut that down.

Kimmy, Looks like I am the only one on right now, I will try to answer....I just sprinkle the DE in the coop and run, the nests...not a lot, just a dusting of it. I just use a scoop and sprinkle it around. When I treat my birds I put on a cloth work glove and dip my hand in the DE and pat the bird with it, making sure to pat under the wings and a pat on the bum to dust the vent area. On new birds, to be sure they are not bringing bugs in, I add 1 T of Sevin dust to about 1 cup of DE just to be sure they get a good dousing before entering my run. I really have no flies, it works like a charm. I also sprinkle a little around the perimeter of the run on the ground to keep the wild birds and other hooligans from bringing critters into the run from the yard. Also they can have food grade DE added to their feed, at a rate of 1 T per 3 cups ( different sites recommend different amounts) if you want to help prevent parasites. I have done that once in awhile. Warning here---when you pat the bird down you might want to wear something over your nose/mouth , they flap their wings and it goes everywhere, I get bronchitis and have borderline asthma, this really sets it off if I breathe it in.

My girls dust bathe in the run, just in the dirt they dig in, so I add a little more DE to the spot they dig in the most. I have thought about adding some sand right there, have not gotten around to it.

Hi Kimmy, I usually use it right on my birds twice a year, or, if I see them going into their feathers like no other, and I don't mean pruning. You can tell if they are itching.
I use a sifter and go around all of the areas in the coop run, inside the coop, nest boxes, anywhere they like to have dust baths. It really doesn't make a huge differnece in putting it in the dirt where they dust bath if you let them free range around the yard..my opinion..but the nest boxes are good, and I rub some into the roosts. Helps keep the flys down too.

Hope the the Exchequer is doing ok..probably still pretty much keeping to herself. Just go out with some bread. You will win her over with the come running when you appear. She loves it. Have you heard her talk yet? She has the cutest little voice.

thank you everyone. i will just go whatever range my family and friends want to go to. my parents kinda have been fearful of guns for years even tho my dad had tons as a kid but with so many of my brothers and sisters getting into guns and marrying people who are into guns its become popular in my family now. my bro has inlaws that are a little crazy about guns, they have i kid you not over a thousand of them of all types, its fun going to their house :) kimmy i use a flour sifter for de, i put it all over. i also take a water bottle and cut a slit in the cap and fill it with de and it allows me to puff de into any crack, it works great :)

Ok went to clean out my coop and i found a lil whitish colored egg in a different part of the coop. Someone had pecked into it. I'm not sure how long its been in there though. It looked fresh. So far the 2 eggs ive gotten have been the same color. Could this be someone else laying a first egg too? Can the color change at all? I didnt get a pic so i cant show what it looked like. I guess i need to wait and see if i still get a brown egg or not. Any ideas?
