Utah!

Cynthia, hope you get better soon! Take good care of yourself.

KSL has chicken wire every so often for cheap. And Craigslist. :)

My bunnies escaped this morning, Red you were right, they burrowed a hole right under the run.....the lady I bought them from said "these kind don't burrow". I asked her specifically if that was going to be a problem....and wondered about her answer.....so the little albino one came back and went right back through the hole he went out of. The bigger brown one disappeared, my dog was chasing what we thought a "cat" this morning out back, I am dead sure it was the bunny, probably scared him away for good. So, don't know if the bunnies will work out. I am not attached, no big deal, but wish me luck telling my son, he is the resident Ace Ventura, loves every creature he sees with his whole heart! Will see how they do.

I have two broody, three molting, and eggs are dwindling. Stinkers :rant Anybody else getting broody/molting birds? Is this a common thing this time of year? They seem to all be off all of a sudden. Even the layers are taking more breaks...wonder if the bunnies did it?

Once again, lots happening and I have missed a lot,

been super busy here, I thought it would calm down once school started, but NO...

We've got the shed all cleaned out at my mom's place and are ready to start fixing the walls and roof, we think she has enough left over stuff to recycle the whole thing and not have to buy anything, YAY!!! so it's not going to be very pretty, but it will be functional

Lisa, my EE's have been molting for almost a month, I sure do miss those green eggs, but they're starting to look not quite so ragged, so hopefully in a couple weeks I'll have a few of those eggs again before the snow flies=) No broodies right now, what are you doing with your broody girls?? They usually molt in the fall....

I am hoping that my other pullets lay an egg or two before it gets cold, I should have 5-6 new layers before November, at least, maybe even that Leghorn EE from Cynthia, since those Leghorns can lay early, keeping my fingers crossed she does the same!

Cynthia, I'm dying to see pics of your SFH chicks, if I missed them, I can go back to the page they are on...

i now keep my rabbits in a rabbit hutch because of this. all rabbits will dig. i have molting girls too, and some that just got over being broody. i hear you on the eggs :he my girls also seem to be in a bad mood as of late too....

So I called my pet chicken and they promise me that she is a true Amereucana. They said that the babies can have pink feet but will change as they grow. So I guess only time will tell but they garinteed me so I hope she really is!!
What if I'm getting her mixed up with my blue Orpington? The blue Orpington has really dark feet and legs.....what do you think?
Cynthia I might want one of your silkie babies!! Especially if you get a blue one;)
Pure Ameraucana can hatch with pink feet. My wheatens always have pink feet at hatch and then turn slate before point of lay. For some reason, it takes awhile for the slate overlay to extend over the scales. Blue orpingtons can also hatch with pink skinned feet, but usually only on the toes.

Lisa, my Miss Piggy has been moulting for a while. She can't even fly up to the roost because of it. I have to put her on there every night. She is still laying, in the bottom nest box. She's a leghorn. :) I have been giving her the protein and boss. I didn't know they could moult for so long. I guess it's better than some of the pictures I've seen, where they moult all at once, and look just awful. Saw more feathers from her out there yesterday. She doesn't have that pretty fan tail right now, but the new feathers are coming in.

Give yours lots of scrambled eggs. :p Boss. Piggy eats up that boss like no other.

Paw, I haven't even noticed..will have to go check it out and see if my wheaten has pink feet and legs. Interesting..guess I'm just used to my BBS's having those slate legs from the beginning.

My Wheatens/BW all have lighter legs....still gray but lighter shade of gray than the BBS. Not as blackish/slate colored.

Urban, I don't think you have the EE and the Orp mixed up, the EE has pretty puffy cheeks. Still looks like an EE to me though! Michelle didyou see the pics? What do you think? "My pet chicken" is where it came from.....I got hatching eggs from them last spring and the Ameraucana eggs were all off white or pale green, no blue....so I wonder!

So lots more of you guys have molty or broody girls! Did not know it was part of the season. My oldest ones are molting (from last spring's hatch), this year's girls are all doing fine but one, and three more are the broody ones. I gave up trying to take them off the nest, I am just letting them sit. Good thing we made more nests this year! Silly birds, they get so intense it is funny to watch them.

Cynthia, I will try the boss! I have loads of it from last winter, I guess i should start them on it for this cold coming up :)

I was going to bring this up, but I only see these things online. If you go to the Americauna Breeders' site, they have pics of chicks and a lot of them have pink legs as chicks. Some seem to start off slate. I get that hatcheries mis-label EE's as Americaunas, but to state that they are pure bred and NOT EE is something new. Charging 18.00 for it also makes me think that it might be authentic. I am quite new so I don't know, but I did want to chime in any way, lol.

Pawtraitart ya that is what I have been finding out:) I'm pretty sure that she really is a pure Ameraucana her legs almost look like they have dusted silver up higher on them and her feet are definitely pink. I went to the Ameraucana org page and read and looked at the pics so I'm not that worried now:)
My Blue Orpington has dark feet with pink on her cute little toes
I just can't wait to see them grow up! They are just soooo stinking cute!!!!
I have a question about Silkies anyone......So my one white one will occasionally paste up just a little so I clean it off and put some mineral oil on her bum....but she has cleaned her self and made her whole bum area all oily is this ok? Will she eventually dry normal or should I clean off her feathers. I want her to be all cute and fluffy!!!

Thanks everyone for being so nice and helpful!!!
this forum is sooo cool!!!
