I'd be surprised if a purebred Ameraucana came from a hatchery, though. Unless they list the birds as a specific color variety, it could be pure in the sense that they are breeding ameraucana to ameraucana, but the colors could be all mixed up which makes easter eggers that won't breed true to color variety. 

Ya my pet chicken did list them as blue Ameraucanas and wheaten Ameraucanas. So they better be what they said they sold me

K so I have a question for you all......... What should I put down in the run? Just dirt with some sad? I have read so many things I don't know what to do and with you all living here in Utah I am up north so it snows tons. The run area will have a metal roof on it.
In the hen house I was just going to put down the pine shavings it's 3ft by 5 ft 4 ft high. What do you guys suggest? I'm getting my coop tomorrow and I just can't wait!!!!!! It will have a pull out floor so easy clean out I hope!!! Please tell me all your thoughts.
Also I asked a couple pages back if anyone knew how I should care for my white silkies little oily bum. It just looks sooo dirty and I'm wondering if it will fluff back up?

Sorry to all of you who have colds not fun!! My daughter has a sinuse infection right now and I can feel her cold coming on to me sour throat!! Not a good thing! I am soooo busy with church things this weekend I can't get sick!!!

Cynthia, have you tried taking some mint tea now and then? It's soothing for me when I'm sick, and it does helps clear out the nasal passages just a little. Chamomile tea is also soothing. I'm so sorry both you and Sphinx are sick

Birdman, I'm glad you got your girls into the new coop tonight. I'll bet they were just a little ornery about having to settle into a new place, is all. They're lucky to have someone who loves them so much and would build them a nice, new home. Good job

I took a short nap late in the day today and woke when it was dark out. Went outside and had to collect the few stragglers that decided to camp on the back porch and on top of my bird feeder, lol. I think I got everyone in their pens okay. Fortunately, most of them put themselves to bed. I keep feeling panicky that someone's dog(s) will come into the yard when I'm otherwise occupied and start killing more of my babies, particularly the little Icelandics I got from Aunt Hattie. I'm jumping up to look out the windows whenever I hear a dog barking outside, sheesh.

Woops! UrbanCM, I meant to respond about your Silkie. Her bum should be fine. When I put balm on my babies' bums after cleaning them, it will stay kind of sticky for a couple of days, but then it gets worn off. Shouldn't hurt her, to my knowledge.

I just have dirt and grass in my run right now, but that's because it's meant to be moved around the garden every so often. I try to clean up as much of the manure as I can and get it thrown away. I'd like to put some sand in there and convert it to a kind of chicken litter box. I have read that the sand makes cleanup so much easier. I would use pine shavings, but those chickens have a party every time I try it and kick it all out of the pen when they start digging for goodies

Dalooras, we've got it pretty bad down here, too. I think we've got smoke from both Idaho and Oregon fires coming in, yippee. It really makes me want to go camping somewhere way far away. Sorry you can't work on the coop for a bit. That's what drives me nuts, is when the stuff for a project is right there, ready to go, and for whatever reason, I can't get going on it.

I meant to respond to your post about Stevie and Angel...and it got lost in my head.

I am so excited for you to get eggs from those girls, I AM in disbelief they are all grown up aready! My first hatchlings! I have not seen pics of them for awhile, if you get a chance it would be so fun to see how they turned out...Did Angel turn out solid black and Stevie solid blue? Angle had such a sweet little face

Blujems---these would be your grandbabies, from your blue wyandotte rooster and the two blue wyandotte girls I got from you guys. Lenny and Squiggie lol

Lisa, yes! Angel is solid black, including her comb. The only way I can tell her face is reddening is because of her teeny wattles and a little bit of skin behind her eyes. She still has that sweet face. Stevie is a couple of shades of dark blue and absolutely gorgeous. They're getting closer to the same size, now. Angel was always so much smaller than her sister, you remember. She's finally caught up! I love my girls. I'll try to get pictures up as soon as I've got my computer problem fixed. Sigh.....

I have two broody, three molting, and eggs are dwindling. Stinkers

Anybody else getting broody/molting birds? Is this a common thing this time of year? They seem to all be off all of a sudden. Even the layers are taking more breaks...wonder if the bunnies did it?

Molting is very common anywhere from the late summer all the way up to early winter so basically in fall to have a good set of feathers for the chills.

Lots of broodies here too, 2 anyway and had 4 others a couple months ago and one that stole chicks from a broody.

Well, they're all mad at me now. I grabbed everyone that's been flying over the fence and clipped their wings, then scouted the garden again for hidden nests. Usually, I've got a pack of chickens following me around when I go out there. Nope, not today! They all sat under the bushes and gave me sour looks. I hate taking away their ability to fly, but with all of the dogs that tend to run loose around here, I don't dare let them wander without supervision. So, I'm a mean mom and grounded them.
