Utah!

I went to Sunny brook and bought food from Christy. She has a big supply of food much cheaper than IFA or Cal ranch. good food just grain no additives. She also had heaters for the buckets with nipples if anyone needs one. Not sure the cost but you can email or call and ask.

Ne careful with the Turkeys. We had them and had to separate them because they kept killing the chickens
I haven't had any trouble with my chickens and turkeys that were raised together... when they were free ranging.. the turkeys would break up rooster fights too.. pretty funny..
Haha, you guys are funny with your stories, and HOLY COW Shawn!!! You have been working hard, sheesh!!

The blue copper roo at my mom's is now molting, too, so once again, another wait for pics, he had missing feathers from being in with the other roos at Shawns, and they were all growing back in nicely when I noticed he was molting, sheesh...
He is a really nice rooster, I never had one as nice as him when I was younger... My son can just walk up to him and pick him up and he just clucks away while my son stokes his comb and wattles, his name is Tornado, haha
It has been a big job.. you'll have to come take a look!!

I'm glad that blue copper is still being a sweet boy.. He will be gorgeous when he gets all his feathers back in!!

Hey everybody! I'm loving all the new chicks. My last order of shipped eggs was the worst! Not a one made it but then only three were fertile. Two exploded. So many loose air sacs! They were from Florida. To far away I guess. I'm missing having chicks. They would have hatched this passed weekend. Grrrrr! My little black Silkie named Boo has gone broody again. I really want to get her some eggs but I'm not to happy with shipped eggs right now.
Lisa I have done that same thing to my garden area about 5 times. I hate the cinder block gardens. My DH says I move my garden around like I do furniture. It kills. My garden is much smaller than yours though. I'm feeling it for you. It is a great when you are done. Why do we do these things huh?!
I'm really loving our fall weather here. We just installed pond netting over my garden area so the chickens can now roam around without the danger of hawks. We tried doing redwood lattice but it made it to dark. I'm loving this netting. I bought it in a 20 x 30 piece. It is great because it stretches tight.
Cynthia when does your boy leave? Or has he already?
Sasha I would love to see pictures of your little cuties.

That is interesting I wonder why the two turkeys I have were so agressive. They are both males and would go up and grab a chicken with their wings and stomp them to death. When I saw them they were immediatly separated. I found several chickens dead in the yard but didn't know what happened until I saw them. I was able to rescue the chicken they had down but now I am turkey shy

Hello again!

I was just wondering what everyone here does to winterize their chickens? Its starting to get pretty chilly! We are planning on getting some of the heated water thingys so it doesnt freeze.. But I don't really want to put a heat lamp in my coop because I'm worried the girls with burn themselves! (and I really don't want my coop to burn down..lol, I'm a worse case scenario type of person)

Is there anything else I NEED to know about chickens in winter? I know egg production will slow (wonderful, out of the 8 I have, only ONE is laying....) but thats about it!

auntie, there you are. Are you birchens looking birchen? lol...mine is! Finally. She has white going all the way down her neck. Going to be pretty cute. Doesn't look fizzle anymore either! They were right. They told me that these birds go through a big change. Glad I kept her. I love cochin bantams.
Here is are a couple of pictures of my NN.and my non NN beside her at times..I am worrying a bit about that big comb on that non NN..she/he is a few days younger than you non NN Lisa. I think this one has a lot bigger comb!

Look at that crop on the NN! Piggy! And, there is the big comb on the non NN. but NN. :)

I wondered about the pink on the side of her face, so asked on the other site, they said
they go red or pink if stressed, or excited, like the get for treats. Interesting.

She had just fluffed up and did some preening under her wing. I hope that neck feathering
comes in more..it seems to be..she's getting a lot of pin feathers in that area and in the crop
area. Good. :D

Well, all three chicks are very skittish, so that's working for me, right? I think once they get used to seeing me sitting right next to their aquarium, they'll calm down a bit.

This is Lucy, the Partridge Sizzle:

And WowWowWubsy the white Silkie.

And last, my favorite, Diana, the Wheaton Frizzle. She's definitely the noisiest of the group.

aww, pretty cute all right..your sister to mine looks to have pretty much the same coloring..and I love that last ones coloring! How fun.

Yes the are looking like birchens. So happy but I'm pretty sure mine are roos.

My sisters thinks she has a pullet though. I love Cochins.

Hattie, if you ever know of anyone going south, I'm more than happy to give you hatching eggs. At this point, they'd be mutts, but it'd still be fun.

ADillyDally, I don't do heat lamps, but I do put a light out there- If they have less than 12 hours of sun a day, they tend to stop laying. So, I have one out there on a timer that goes on at dusk and stays on til 9 or 10. I also have something to keep the water from freezing.

Cynthia, that NN is sure filling in nicely. Interesting that the skin changes color.

I am so excited! I found a pullet egg today in my little girls' coop! I'm not sure if it's the lavender ameraucana (mix?) or the Lavender Ameraucana/BCM mix. The color is slightly more green than blue, but much lighter than I'm expecting from the Am/BCM. It's exactly what I'd expect from the lav am, but she doesn't look anywhere near ready, even though she was hatched the same day as the Am/BCM and the pure BCM. But, all three are 25 weeks old, so.... It's also really big for a pullet egg- 38 grams. Poor thing had a fair amount of blood on it.

Here it is next to my cream legbar egg of the day (legbar on the left, pullet egg on right). I swear they're more blue in real life than this photo shows.

In other news, I'm having trouble getting my new chicks to take to the water nipples. I'm watching them a lot more carefully because I've decided that's how Potsie died- I don't think she figured out a slight change in her watering system. My other chickens all took right to it, but these chicks sure are stubborn about it.

Aww, I am thinking mine is a girl..didn't I get you 4 of them..and she ends up with the girl? :(

Wish I had more bantams for you. The one's I'm hatching are LF. Then I'm done hatching. About time ey?
