Vaccinate or Not? Pros/Cons

just what i was told by the doctor
.The Chicken doctor. you see why they say that is because exposure could already be present in the older birds. That i cant possibly know if it has happened or not happened yet. but if exposure has Not happened it still will protect them although not ideal to wait until older. I'm sure if you want more information the doctor would be happy to speak with you about it. i told him the age of my birds and he did not say it was an issue but i will email again personally and get the information or documentation you request.il email now.

It's a personal choice whether to vaccinate your chickens or not. Many chicken owners dont vaccinate. I'm one of them and experienced a run of fowl pox go through my flock a few years ago. My birds are now immune to that particular strain of fowl pox. It might be best to call your local extension office or state department of agriculture and find out what poultry diseases are prevelent in your area, then perhaps vaccinate for that particular disease if you wish.

got my reply email from the doctor and yes just as i was saying the vaccination can be done at any age. with the goal being to vaccinate BEFORE exposure to mareks. some have even vaccinated in the face of outbreak to stop the progression of the disease.
