Hi! My birds are really healthy but I was wondering about vaccinating for fowl pox and mereks .... how does it work?? Good idea to do?? I keep my stuff soooo clean but I know people that has had these issues in their flock... can a chicken be too young or old to vaccinate ?? Thanks !!!

I only get chicks vaccinated for Mareks from a hatchery, where the vaccines are supposed to be better than those sold by animal stores online. I don't vaccinate ones I hatch or buy locally. If you have raised chickens without a problem before, you probably don't need Mareks vaccine, since it is either in your environment or not. It is a terrible disease, and once it is in your flock, it remains in the environment for years, and can spread through wild birds. Fowl pox can be really bad in the tropical areas with lots of mosquitoes like in your state. Most people don't vaccinate for pox, but I might consider it where mosquitoes are very bad.
