Hi there folks!

I have some chickies hatching April 9th or so, they will be my first chickens ever! And I want to keep them safe from disease, just like my dogs, cats, and fiancee.

So, living in FL I have been told it's a good idea to vaccinate against fowl pox (mosquito hell here!) and Mareks disease. I know where to buy both vaccinations and syringes, (firststatevetsupply.com) but I do not know exactly HOW to administer the vaccine. I am fine with subcutaneous applications and have done it many times to squirrels (I rehab them) and a cat with renal failure. (RIP Bo!)

If these require finding a vein though, I am out of my comfort zone. I have heard that Mareks is just sub-Q, but fowl pox application? No idea!

Would you recommend I vaccinate against anything else? Am I being a worry wart? I'm only going to have a few chickens. 6 of my own hens, the roos have to go somewhere else, and I have had great success selling my extras and they have not even hatched! Craigslist is a wonderful resource - I even have people wanting me to do custom hatches for them, which feeds my hatching addiction and makes it slightly profitable!

Thank you in advance!
