there are so many different "disease's" that I've found vaccinations for.Our chicks came from a farm and have never had any. are there any that really are a "must" and at what ages do I give them? our babies are between 1 & 4 weeks Thanks!

I'd suggest talking to your county extension agent for their recommendations for your specific area and your specific circumstances. The number should be in the phone book under county government or you can find it online.

Hopefully the extension office will hook you up with someone who knows the prevalence of chicken diseases in your area and will try to find out how you plan on managing them. The answers should be different if you plan on keeping a closed flock (never expose them to other chickens) versus if you are planning to show them or take part in chicken swaps. It also depends on how old you expect to allow them to get.

It's too late for a Marek's vaccination. In my area with my management practices none are recommended. If I took part in chicken swaps or shows, fowlpox would be recommended. Your area could easily be different.

Hatcheries vaccinate because they have to since they have so many chickens in a small space. Many breeders do to that have large number of chicks and go to shows. For those that have a few chicks like under 50 it is not nessary. Most farmers do not for it is just not needed same with small flock owners. If you plan on showing then I would worry about it or if you plan on bringing in many outside chickens from other places. Otherwise is just is not something to concern yourself with as it is not a issue for a small closed flock.

You might do a search on this topic here on BYC to get more information and to ease your mind. Search button is at the top just make sure to make it topic seach not message and topic.
