I am about to order our first chicks and it is asking if I want the Marek's or Coccidiosis vaccine. We are ordering 25 total but a dozen or so will be meat birds. We have a large hen house and run and they will be allowed to free range also. Are either necessary? I have read where they can't hurt, but I am unsure about eating the meat and eggs with the vaccination. Also, if I choose to not vaccinate, do I "have" to feed them medicated feed? I really don't want to give them any medications. Any input is appreciated! Thanks!

I'd definitely have the chicks vaccinated for Mareks. Cocci? I've never done it, and am not sure I would based on the ineffectiveness of the vaccine I've read about. If others have, I'd like to know what they experienced. I'm not using medicated feed this year. I'm only going to use 5 cc of Corid 9.6% in water once they are 7 days old and until they have been outside in the grow off pen for two weeks.
