Valentine's Day Hatch

Do you have any idea what you're getting from hot2pot? I got some neat "extras" from her for the NYD hatch. The polish and silver sussex are incredibly friendly as are some EE from my own flock. They will eat out of my hand.

Good luck with your quest for the NN. My Gomez Addams from the NYD hatch has "racing stripes" down his back - two little bald patches that run from his shoulders to his bare butt. How odd looking. I have a few molting turkens right now, and considering it was subzero all weekend and all the turkens were out, I'm not worried about Gomez.

When my NYD hatch chicks first moved out of the incubator, they were in a brooder tub in my hall bathtub. It's handy and the dogs can't get in there.

About a week ago, they got moved to the garage into a large brooder my husband built for me out of the whelping box from my last litter of puppies. The girl I kept is now four, so it had been unused for quite some time.

Now today, we had another "hatch". We had three ewes deliver today and one had trouble with a huge ram lamb. She wanted nothing to do with him, she keeps trying to steal one of the twin ewes lambs, but kept knocking her own lamb away. All three ewes kept trying to trample him in their efforts to push him away.

We now have a lamb living in the bathtub in the hall bath.

Pics are a must with this story.

Okay, the real story here..............and there were no pictures................this afternoon I milked a sheep in order to get some of the colostrum for the baby. That was an adventure! These are not dairy sheep, VERY small teats.

Anyway, here he is basking under a heat lamp (in the 20's outside tonight, so I'm sure he appreciates being an inside sheep). He's a dorper, fairly nicely marked, but he does have parrot mouth (a fault in sheep). Hopefully he'll make it through the night and I'll take a picture of him walking around tomorrow. He was following me around the kitchen and dining room earlier.

Ah Deb, that's Murphy's Law you'd need the whelping box just as soon as you turned it into something else. ;)

The little guy sure is a cutie. :love The pattern reminds me of my Boer goats. I have a little buckling who I though might have a black head when he was born but he dried off chocolate brown. =)

Edit: Yes! 'Sheep Rodeo' milking vid would be great! I had 'Goat Rodeo' when I first tried milking my does so I can imagine the fun you had, my girls got their teats from the Boer side of the family, not the Dairy side!

I did the same thing with my double post above yours. Tried to edit, but my edit didn't show up in the post, went to re-edit and it shows up, post again and nothing.....
