Valentine's Day Hatch

I have 19 lovely beauteous Blue Black Blue Ameraucana Eggs from Sweet Nellie and 15 Fabulous Iowa Blues from Awesome Jim Hienz to set for this great hatch. I cheated with the AWESOME eggs Incredible Deb sent and put them in on Friday cause I did not want to wait She sent almost 40 GLWs and RIRs and a few Surprises

I would think that the motion from the car would "turn" them just fine!!! I wouldn't even bother turning them. (Isn't the point of turning so that they don't stick?)
I may join this hatch after all, and try out my new tiny incubator with some GLCs.

I wasn't planning to turn them during the car trip. I've been saving up my eggs in my turner in the open incubator. The turner has been running the whole time in order to keep the eggs rocked during storage. I think I'll set the extra eggs in a cut up carton along the edge of the turner for safe keeping (thanks for the egg hoarder idea mrheinz77

). When I get to Oregon, I can just stack them on top so I don't have to hand turn them. Since I'm setting so many store bought eggs out of the fridge, I'm sure I'll be able to find turner space for them on the first candling.

I am getting so excited! Since hatch day falls during my work week, I might have to take at least one day off. I think I wore a path in the rug for two days during pipping/zipping & hatching during the NYD hatch. I took a picture of each individual egg hatching, except for the two that popped out while I ran to the store. The only reason I left then is I was afraid if I bought a brooder tub before the hatch, I'd jinx it.

I'm going to have so many eggs set this time, if I get any kind of development at all, I'm not going to be able to monitor each hatching egg. From the last batch, I can tell you which chick came out of which egg!

Hey Hatchers Get Ready to Set Your Eggs!

Don't forget the mini video contest going on right now. Video must be around 30 seconds or less and can be anything poultry-related.

Here's a sample vid I took yesterday with the redneck Wannabe in the middle of things. He started calling to the ladies before I even got the cabbage out of the bag and by the time I had the video rolling, they were already chowing down.

CHICKENS VS CABBAGE
.....and we all know how this one turns out.

I got some of mine early but decided to just sit them in a turner in a cool room and wait for today. My second set arrived yesterday so they've been resting. I am usually super eager to set them right away but since the point was for V'day chicks, I figured a few days of rest wouldn't hurt.

Sorry, guess I should read more carefully.

Just kidding...............no problem!

Deb

I should have gone to work today. I'm having trouble sitting on my hands and typing at the same time. If I don't sit on my hands, I'll be in the other room, fiddling with the eggs and plugging in the incubator.

I keep eyeing Jim's beautiful Iowa Blues and am wanting to go ahead and start them up

I have 10 Silver Dorking Eggs waiting to go in at 4 pm. I wasn't able to get 24 eggs together in time for setting today, but I have more eggs coming.
