Valentine's Day Hatch

Update on the TapeChick: (for those who didn't see when I first set it, I fumble fingered an egg when getting it out of the shipping box, cracked it pretty badly on the aircell side and repaired it with an "X" of scotch tape, since I had nothing else handy)..

TapeChick is OUT and peeping! I had to help it, as when I went to check on the egg, I discovered that s/he was not in fact shrinkwrapped, but huge - probably due to a messed up aircell, the poor little chick had outgrown the egg and could not turn to get out. The butt was up stuck where the aircell should be and the beak had pipped out the small end - once helping it out it's weak but appears to be fully formed, yolk absorbed, no shrinkwrap or bleeding. I have hopes that it will be fine. :)

Two more eggs have pipped, the two that were still peeping. All the other chicks are in the brooder. If all goes well and there's no surprises I should have 17/23 that went to lockdown. Not bad for mostly shipped eggs!

Great save on the TapeChick!!

Have you got a clever name for it yet? The 'x' begs to be included....if a pullet, Xena the strong warrior princess would be good...if a cockerel, X-ROO might speak to his super natural ability to survive!

LOL! good idea. Knowing me, I'll probably not be able to tell it apart from the others after a few days. Hard to tell what color it will be but I am thinking chipmunky, so hopefully it's an EE type girl. =) It's doing great now, just went to check on it and it's doing the 'just got outta my egg flop' around the incubator. :)

hope he is!!!!

he didn't make it i came back and i took him out to clean him up give him so sugar water and he was dead right when i opened the bator.... but i got one more chick my dad said it wouldn't hatch but i stuck it in my brooder in a Tupperware container with a damp paper towel and it was talking it couldn't get out i broke the egg a little for it and out pops a perfectly formed EE it sucked up the yolk and was all sealed it just couldn't get out of the egg.. it is now sitting in my hoody pocket sitting in a warm rag and paper towel and it is sitting in there talking to me.

13/30 healthy but 16/30 hatched ... not to shabby for being my first successful hatch Ive tried 8 times and the 8Th time i got one chick so i think i did a pretty good job.

One more chick so I have 18/23 (23 that went to lock down). 14 are from Hot2Pot blue eggs and 4 from my own mutt eggs. Five eggs still left but I candled them and I am guessing dead in shell. I'm leaving them in for giggles, at least until the last four are fluffed and I can take them out.
