Hi, haven't been on in a while but I bring exciting news! One of my coturnix has hatched 8 out 15 eggs, not her own though.

Here's the actual parents:

Yes, I have valleys and coturnix living together and they get along fine. The valleys stay up high mostly and just think the coturnix are aliens.

In case anyone wants to know, I have an 8 by 8 by 8 foot aviary that was a pain to build. I use sand, dirt and chopped straw for bedding.

Ohh, how cute! A rare occurrence :) Thanks for the pictures and info on the enclosure and good luck with the little ones! Oh - and make sure they can't get through the bars in that cage you've placed around them - my button quail chicks go straight through bars that are less than 1 cm apart, I lost my first naturally hatched button like that..

Wow a broody coturnix... Try to bring back the brooding qualities lol

Anyways that's impressive and rare, wouldn't butcher her anytime soon

Thanks all. Yeah I'll have to make sure about the bar spacing. I think it's 1/4 inch but there is a gap where it closes.

I would love to let her hatch out yearly. The female valley doesn't seem interested so I'll probably leave her to it every year if she's in the mood.:)
