Hello! Thank you! So what are the "rules" by you? I have found this online but I find it hard to believe I would need 5 contiguous acres plus a fence for chickens. Am I wrong? Thank you for replying

Are you in actual city limits of Valparaiso? If so, then I think you need the 5 acres. If you aren't inside the actual city limits then you probably would need to find out about Porter county ordinances. I know people with chickens in Valparaiso, but maybe they're outside of the city limits (or just haven't been discovered?).

Welcome to BYC! Check with your local zoning office for the rules on keeping chickens.

Yes I am in city limits. But hopefully in the future we will be moving (still in valpo) and maybe we won't be in city limits? That's what I was thinking too maybe they haven't been discovered lol. Thanks for the info hopefully one day I can get chickens!
