Hello,
what is it they say? long time reader first time poster. So I am a somewhat experienced amateur, we are working with our second flock, the first was all roadies and this one is a mix of roadies, australorps and ameracuanas. we have two of each, the kids wanted some different eggs so we decided to spice it up a bit.

anyway, looking forward to chatting about our unique hobby.

thanks,
Jonathan Reynolds

! Great to have you aboard! Good luck to you and your flock!

Hey there - I am also from Vancouver. Working on my first batch of chickens, so am a complete newbie! Would love to hear your experience/tips. I have 3 Americaunas - but I think one of them is a male; it looks like it is developing a comb and its tail feathers droop while the other two are upright. :-( As you know, we can't have roosters in town - so sadly, if this does turn out to be a male, it will have to go. What do you suggest - craigslist? Will 2 chickens be happy (instead of three)?

Two chickens will be completely happy so long as they have lots of room to run around and eat bugs, I unfortunately ended up with a male this year also, as for finding him a new home, I just posted a message in the Washingtonian Thread to see if anyone wants him, otherwise he will have to be dispatched as I can not afford to lose my whole flock because of one noisy rooster.

How old are yours? I can tell you that if it is a rooster he will start waking you up at about the 4 mo. mark. It might start out tolerable but will quickly become unbearable. our first flock had a rooster that I foolishly thought I could manage... HAHAHAHA not a chance.

Later,
Jonathan

Mine are between 8-9 weeks old. Thanks for the suggestion of the Washington thread...didn't know there was one.

If you go to the "where am I, where are you," section you can find your state thread and post on there. You will likely find people in your area that can give more specialized advice.

You can also try advertising on Craig's list. BYC has a buy, sell, trade forum and also one that lists free animals to good homes section but, you need to have 20 posts before you can participate.
