Hey! I am new to the chicken world.. Got my coop delivered yesterday and I am getting my chicks on Monday from townline poultry hatchery. My question is the following: I am only able to have 4-6 chicks at a time (city made the rules...) and no roosters. I thought I should start small so I am getting 4 pullets. I picked up 4 chicks, 4 different breeds. (1 Araucana Ameraucana,1 isa brown, 1 Orpington and 1 australop). is this a good mix?? Is it ok to get 4 birds from 4 different breeds? I picked them up because they are all pretty calm and good egg layers , or so I read... Any advise is welcome!!!

Welcome to BYC. !!
Yes they will be fine. Problems happen with different ages or if introducing new chickens to an established flock.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. That mix should get along very nicely. Your Araucana/Ameraucanas are actually Easter Eggers which are generally docile hybrids. Isa Brown is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links which are docile, laying machines (you should get loads of large, brown eggs from that girl). :o) And Orpingtons and Australorps are both very calm and gentle breeds (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of both breeds). Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your chicks.

You have picked wisely

I'm glad you joined our "flock!"

Yes, it is perfectly fine to raise different breeds together. You chose some excellent breeds to start out with.
