Hello
Thanks for having me here, I am fairlt new to having chooks.
We bought a house - and five chicken a year ago- one rooster and 4 hens. They roost in a tree at night and come to us for food but ramge all day in paddocks and bush.
Then we got 2 chooks given to us as well. We have a chicken tractor smallish available for those two girls.
Of the wild chicken one hen has gone broody.
Of the othwr flock the black chook has also gone broody in the chicken tractor. The whitw chook has not been popular with the rooster, he seems to favour black and always paxks at her. She has come back from ranging a few days ago with feathers missing at the back of her head and some bloody skin there. I thought she got in a fight with her friend and gave her an extra best to lay in as I saw her try to get in the nest of the broody chook. Next day she came back with more wounds.
I have now fenced off a run for her including the chicken tractor where she still is roosting. I felt she needed a safe place to recover from her wounds nd for now her broody friend seems to leave her alone.
I also have a couple of eggs in the incubator
Now I realize this all sounds very unprofessional. I have two little kids and various excuses for why we haven got a proper setup yet. So far the chooks seemed happy and healthy enough but with injuries and more baby chooks its all seems fairly chaotic now.
I wonder how to set it all up better. Will tbe white chook be safe with the mama chook anf her new babies or will she get injured again?
Who should be part of which flock? Including thr new chooks from incubator?
Thanks for all opinions and advice
