Hello
Thanks for having me here, I am fairlt new to having chooks.
We bought a house - and five chicken a year ago- one rooster and 4 hens. They roost in a tree at night and come to us for food but ramge all day in paddocks and bush.
Then we got 2 chooks given to us as well. We have a chicken tractor smallish available for those two girls.
Of the wild chicken one hen has gone broody.
Of the othwr flock the black chook has also gone broody in the chicken tractor. The whitw chook has not been popular with the rooster, he seems to favour black and always paxks at her. She has come back from ranging a few days ago with feathers missing at the back of her head and some bloody skin there. I thought she got in a fight with her friend and gave her an extra best to lay in as I saw her try to get in the nest of the broody chook. Next day she came back with more wounds.
I have now fenced off a run for her including the chicken tractor where she still is roosting. I felt she needed a safe place to recover from her wounds nd for now her broody friend seems to leave her alone.
I also have a couple of eggs in the incubator
Now I realize this all sounds very unprofessional. I have two little kids and various excuses for why we haven got a proper setup yet. So far the chooks seemed happy and healthy enough but with injuries and more baby chooks its all seems fairly chaotic now.
I wonder how to set it all up better. Will tbe white chook be safe with the mama chook anf her new babies or will she get injured again?
Who should be part of which flock? Including thr new chooks from incubator?
Thanks for all opinions and advice

No location in your profile, and I understand you just signed up, so let me make an assumption. You are from Tasmania,,, and the term "Chooks" , is a giveaway that you are from the Australia area.

I think you should try to make a conventional chicken coop housing for your chickens. That should also have a run area, that is fenced in to contain your chickens. It can be a large area, where they free-range,, but not able to escape into the forest. There are ways to control chickens from flying over fences. I can elaborate on that in later posts if needed.

As things turn warmer,, weather-wise, you can construct an open-air coop from fencing, and a tarped roof for now. Such housing is fine in warm conditions. By the time cold arrives for you,, you may have things figured out for next step.

You do mention you have 2👩‍👧‍👦little ones💞💞 you need to care for first. That of course is more important than next things in line.:hugs Just do the best you can.

I think if your chickens are all together,,, they will live peacefully in harmony. It is when chickens come into flock area, and then leave,, they are looked upon as intruder.
Ask anything else you need to know. There are many peeps here ready to offer and share, their advice, and experience with their own chickens.
I myself have been keeping chickens for over 20 years,, but only a small backyard flock , and all are pets. They all live into their Golden Years.

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and:welcome
