Varying temperature in Janoel 24 Incubator

I'd trust the temp on the incubator rather than the type you are using to confirm with. The type you are using to confirm the temp, are often slightly off. A regular glass thermometer would be better, since you can test it, and tell if it's off.
I just used this kitchen thermometer and calibrated it using the ice method. Eventually it wouldn’t go below 1.6 so that was the difference. I put it in the incubator and it came up with 39.6. 39.6-1.6 = 38. That was the temp I set my incubator on. Is that better? Do I now know my temp is okay?

Much better. Yes, I'd assume the incubator is ok, at this point. At least now you know the thermometer you confirm with, is 1.6 degrees off, and by factoring that in, you can get accurate readings.

I've read whole discussions on here, about how two or more of the exact same brand, and type thermometers can vary in how much they're off. Anything from 1/2 a degree up to 2 degrees. Medical type thermometers, used on people for taking temperature, are not much better. The digital thermometers work best with fresh batteries.

The Brinsea Spot Check seems to be one of the better ones. They still have to be checked occasionally, but the general consensus is that they're the most accurate.
