vaulted skulls

The first pic also shows cavernous nostrils, I know that the V duplex (Dv) gene is linked with cavernous nostrils, I am assuming it is not linked to vaulted skulls?

Probably stirring up a hornet's nest here but in my experience breeding silkies for almost a decade, the vaulted skull is more desirable. I have never had problems with vaulted skull silkies as far as injuries.

yeah, after finding out my silkies had vaulted skulls, i had to get rid of them... LOL... something about knowing that their brains are exposed and just covered by flesh and feather kind of weirded me out...

i've also seen some OEGB's at the feedstores with vaulted skulls... tripped me out...

Do you want to see what a vaulted skull looks like without the crest?? I have an amazing Lavender Silkie that had a huge crest, until my Buff Orpington decided it looked mighty tasteful (The Orp has been re-homed) I was in shock when I went out to find this!!

This is her before! I'll try to get a pic of her from the side, you can really see the vault good from the side.

Dr. Gigi[of Yellow Golden pheasant fame] delivered a great paper on vaulted skulls at the 1939 World Poultry Congress. Very good reading. The brain of a chicken with a vaulted skull is very different. I have a book of all the presentations at that congress. It's worth trying to find. Some parts may be available on-line. Tom
