Looking for some advice for those who have either a metal DIY carport frame setup, or maybe a Shelter Logic 'vinyl-type' clearspan garage.

Our situation: Our 3rd vehicle is a beloved 1985 Toyota Landcruiser who used to live inside our barn. Too inconvenient to get in/out when we want to drive it, plus that space is now used for other storage. Landcruiser has been living for some time parked on bare ground (next to the Tuff Shed) covered with a breathable, custom fabric cover.

Our wants: A more protective solution under which to park just the Landcruiser, but NOT constructing a full-blown metal building on concrete slab. Needs to have ability to be completely closed.

Considerations: protection from blazing sun, and rain (when we get it); lifespan of the structure; cost; ability to anchor 'garage' in unforgiving soils.

Opinions welcome. We're in the early stages of exploring this idea. Thanks!

Not sure how helpful this is, but we needed to protect my son's Audi while he was gone working overseas for a few years. Hubby built this and attached it to our garage. We bought tarps to put around this in the winter as we are in Wisconsin. It looks rather makeshift, I know, but maybe gives you a different idea. Our garage was old, and was since replaced with a new two-car garage, so then his car went inside for a few months until he came home to get it.

Thanks for the photos, Debbie. That's almost the same setup as our Tuff shed and where "Big Blue" is parked right now. I've thought about making a "lean to" type structure just like yours, connecting it to the shed. We'd also be able to add planks for walls, etc.
