Okay, now I've got to go see who else has eggs in the incubator. I set eight Marans mutt eggs on Saturday, my first hatching attempt ever, in my newly-built "Uglybator", and today I have veins! WHEE!!!!

The Uglybator, hard at work!!! Recycled Godiva truffles shipping cooler, yummmmm.....

Great job on the incubator. I am hatching my first batch too (day15) and also built my own incubator (The Chick-U-Bator). When I first candled the 15 eggs I set I saw the veins in 6 of them and was pretty excited too. I just candled last night and have 12 moving little chicks. It is amazing at how fast they grow from a beating little blob and veins to a fully identifiable chick. Good luck with your hatch.

Oooh, if anyone wants to get a Godiva truffles shipping cooler and doesn't know what to do with the truffles.... I'll take em!!! LOL Seriously, congratulations! I'm only at 28 hours with trader joe eggs in my home made 'bator. I did just eat two fried that had loose air sacks and they were fertile so I'm hoping that's a good sign for the batch! LOL.

Ah, Brookhavens, that sounds so exciting! I have to wait 6 more days before I'm gonna candle (at 7 days ;P) It's gonna be hard! We also live in such a hot dry climate, that I'm having trouble keeping the humidity up! I guess when lockdown comes along, I'll have to add wet paper towels and such things I can find here as suggestions, to keep that humidity up!

Brook, thanks so much and congrats on yours! I got my flock as adults so didn't get to watch chicks growing :-( Obviously I had to fix that!

I have to ask, what is that big beautiful monster in your avatar photo? He's too stocky for a dane and the muzzle's too blunt, I'm just not recognizing the breed at all but he's a beauty!

Congrats! Make sure to keep us updated

OMG, Cluck-cluck, scrambled mail-order eggs! And I thought my Godiva chocolates were extravagant, lol!

I'm having the exact opposite problem with humidity. We've been sitting at 60% outside for weeks, and I can't find any way to get it lower in the incubator. I'd have to buy a dehumidifier and dry that room out, and that's not in the budget right now. Well, I figure mama hens can hatch them outdoors in this weather, so hopefully I can, too. The do have the advantage of being extremely fresh and unshipped -- I've been tempted to order some online from time to time, but a "successful" hatch rate of 50% kinda makes me nervous! What breeds did you order?

LOL, I'm doing a test run in my home made bator with Trader Joe's fertile and free ranged eggs. Even if nothing hatches, I'm learning about my incubator and if something does hatch, I'll keep the hens for egg production, but my main desire is to get pretty little Serama and Silkie chickens ;P Not the best layers by far, but if i have leghorns, that won't be a problem (asside from maintaining two coops and runs) LOL

Thanks. He is an English Mastiff.

I have a small sponge set inside a mini bread tin to help keep the humidity level. Works better than the paper towels because it holds water longer.
