Every night when I lock my now 19 week old chicks there is usually 1 that is not up on the roost so I always pick her up and put her on it. Last night there were 2 on the ground (I have 6). I was going to check everyone's vent to make sure they looked clean. I put the 2 girls up on the roost and began looking at vents. The one chicks vent was swollen and kind of wet, clean not dirty. I kind of figured maybe she was going to lay. Before I knew it PLOP there was a nicely shaped egg however a little translucent. I poked it with my finger it felt like gel. I felt bad I put her on the roost and not a nest box but I guess she'll be figuring it out sooner or later.
About 2 weeks ago I got about 8 eggs in one day but since then some days none but for the last week usually 2-3. I guess not everyone is laying. I also found 2 small poorly formed eggs on the poop board this morning.
All of the good eggs I've gotten are hard shelled but small.
