Well, I'd say to heck with both of them... she knew you liked him thus aiming at him is calculated cruelty. He knows she's your friend and aimed for her so also calculated cruelty. There's enough accidental cruelty running amock without surrounding yourself with jerks who do it on purpose. Some people just enjoy hurting others. Seem to feel better about themselves only when crushing someone beneath their boots. So, Wish them luck, ELSEWHERE, and have yourself a nice evening... movie or book, some comfy socks, maybe a chocolate cookie/brownie/cocoa.

Edit... a side thought just popped in my head... SOME guys purposely go after pairs of friends for certain adult... err... things... that may be what this one is up to, and why he's trying to get the trois of you together in one place.

Lots of good people out there...kind and caring ones...don't waste your time with those who trample you...keep your chin up and your spirit calm...positive thoughts and know that good things are headed your way...lock the icky things and people out side in the rain where they belong...
