Hi all, new to the site and keeping chickens.

I have 8 hens just about a week or two away from moving outside to the coop. Now I understand that I don't have adequate ventilation as of right now, but trying to fix that. My question is if I can get away this placement. My coop is 4ft by 8ft, roof starts about 4 feet up from the bottom as well and taper up to a peak. I want to place a thin vent along the entire back wall where my roost is. It would be 13 inches away from the roost horizontally but about 9 inches taller than where the roosting bar is.

I've put so much time and energy into this coop I want to do it right. I have two other vents much higher up on opposite ends of the coop but they are less than 1 square foot each and inadequate on their own from what I have been reading. Is 9 inches from the top of the roosting pole to the bottom of the vent acceptable? For whatever it's worth, I have 6 gold sex link and 2 Easter eggers.

Thanks
