Thanks bills. That is what I am looking for; keeping our strong winter winds from from blowing straight in. I'd love to see your pic when you post it!

You can see how I hinged the vents on one side, which deflects the prevailing wind, yet vents the coop well. I also have the window, so the coop is vented furtherin the hot weather.
The slip bolt can be used to hold the vent open or closed, by simply drilling a hole in the roof joist.
