Ventilation!!!?

I have a coop 8 feet long, 4 feet wide, 4 feet tall. The front, the long side, has ~ 12 inch wide section of hardware cloth mesh at the top running the entire 8 feet. Opposite that is a door with mesh ~ 2 x 2 feet. Most of the floor is hardware cloth. The section between the roof deck and the tops of the walls is mesh.

This allows air to enter through the door and rise out of the front.

All in all, about 12 square feet of wire mesh for ventilation. The mesh floor was intended for ease of cleaning, not ventilation.

My other coop is the same, but has a solid floor.

I am building a new coop and did some reading about ventilation in this forum. It is recommended to provide one square foot per chicken.

My ventilation consists of a large awning style window kept open when weather is warmer. The other ventilation is in the peak between the roof trusses. It is covered in hardware cloth and is kept open year round. It's up high above their roost so there's no draft. Heat rises up and out with the smells.
