Good day wonderful chicken peeps,

I am confused as to the sexes of my Rhode Island Reds. I believe I may have two roos on my hands. The one on the left is Ventress. We are hoping she is a she but at 6 months she is not laying (I understand she may not start laying for many months yet) and her comb and wattle are very red and quite large compared to her sibling. General Grievous (GG for short) I think is a roo. He has a long tail feather, he is very skittish and when I try to pet him he almost growls or grunts, whereas Ventress clucks when I pet her. Still I'm hoping for some seasoned advice as Thanksgiving dinner is "rooster a la king" I'm told. I just want to be as sure as possible before breaking the news that GG will be supper to my 5 yr old son. Thanks!

And the results are in....two cockerels it is.

No crowing as my head roo, Peanut, keeps the gentlemen in line and they are not up to challenging him as of yet, but they both have black tail feathers coming in now, both have super pointy hackle feathers and long saddle feathers pointing downward like Peanut's.

Aside from physical traits these two are not a part of the flock it seems. Peanut keeps them away from his ladies and they are as far away from the rest of the flock as possible, even though they all sleep together in the same coop.

Also, my little silkie got startled as I opened the backyard door and she started chirping loudly and the three boys came running from across the yard like super fast velosa raptors all at the same time while the other ladies kept eating in the field.

Thank you all for your words of wisdom. You ladies and gentlemen are awesome!!! Now, off to find homes or get the soup pot out... tears at my heartstrings but it is what it is. They're having a great, free ranged life. Quality of life no matter how long or short is what I feel is important. Thanks again all!
