VERTICAL GARDENING ON YOUR CHICKEN RUN FENCING

Cool Thanks! You know whats funny is I had a tire changed at a shop down the road from me about a month ago! If I had heard about this idea I would have told them i'd keep it! it was perfectly fine but had a slice in it and wouldn't pass inspection. If I decide to try it, I will call them up! never would have thought of that! This site is full of people with great ideas! I love it!

Lol I have stacks of tires all over, for my taters! (Stacked 3 high by now)But alas.... THE CHICKENS CLIMB THEM!!! :( all year they have tortured my poor potatoes... I finally had to cover everything with chicken wire because the jump up in them and act like I've made them a delicious salad, on a pedestal.

:( I need more tires, less chickens, or to hide my potatoes...

They jump up and eat all my Wonderberries, and will jump for the string beans and tomatoes too... I have athletic chickens lol... I gave up and decided to just plant twice as much so they can have at it lol...

still makes me somewhat grumpy lol ;)

Oh! But putting hog panel, bent into a W, over cukes is AWESOME! They climb up it and its bent so they just hang out over the crown. So helpful picking them too! :)

I'm having a hard time visioning your W. Can you post a pic? I use cattle panels. Never have too many of those. My favorite application (aside from the green house and hoop coop) is to run 2 panels vertically about 15" apart and plant tomatoes in the middle.

I had to squeeze next to the fence, hope its visible...

Guess it's more if an "M" haha ;)

We use cattle, hog, any kind of panel, tires.... DH cuts the cattle panels in half lenghtways for our tomatoes too :)

Here are my string beans. I think that was a cattle panek, cut in half lengthways; its about 2' tall...

If i can save frustration lol...DON'T PLANT BEANS WHERE THE CHICKENS CAN FIND THEM! Lol the front part, you can see where the chickens kept chomping new growth through the panels, even though I was careful to plant them on the side where they weren't SUPPOSED to be able to snag them ... Poor beans; i had to train the chooks by spraying them with a hose, and they STILL sneak over for a nip every once in a while ;)

Saves tons of space; save old fencing too, and make your own tomato cages ;)

Edit* autocorrect makes me look illiterate :p
