VERY long narrow eggs

Excited to be here. Looking for advice on my flock. My 3yr old girl has always been a great brown egg layer(1 daily). This winter she went through 2 molts in 3 months. Ever since, she only lays once every 2 weeks and always lays a VERY long skinny egg(1 yolk). Today the egg was also white rather than brown. She doesn’t seem to be in any pain and is otherwise very healthy. Ideas?

I get eggs like that sometimes. I don't know who's doing it nor what causes it, but I don't think it's anything to worry about. Mine are most likely pullet variations. Someone else may have more knowledge about this.

As for the brown color, it gets added after the shell is formed. The color of eggs will lighten up through the laying season as the hen uses up her pigment stores. I expect this is related to aging. Again, I'm not an expert, but I wouldn't worry if it were my hens.

A lot depends upon breed and strain within a breed. Some are burned out after 2 years, and others lay throughout their lifetime. High production hens become non productive earlier than moderate layers.

Hi and welcome to BYC! I agree, your lovely lady is very likely nearing the end of her egg production. I once had a Leghorn who laid an egg a day for 11 months, then never laid another.
