Hello all! I am at the very beginning of my chicken journey; just now considering if they might be something that is possible for me. I'm interested in having just a few (4ish) birds but I live in a neighborhood with neighbors very close by. I'm in Austin, Texas so keeping birds in this heat is something I'm weighing the pros and cons with as well. Many people in my community have birds but this is all so new to me that I'm trying to gather all the info and make an informed decision. I'm really excited to be here and ready to learn!

:welcome

Try chatting with fellow members in TX, here's a link to your state thread:
Texas

Heat was something I had to really be concerned with when I had a flock in Florida. Lots of shade (either natural or man-made) will help, cooling treats like watermelon, extra waterers, etc. can all help.

Best wishes!

Hello and welcome. Chicks are like a bag of chips, once you open the bag you just can't stop!
