Hello, its going to be my first time hatching eggs and i recently ordered some eggs to hatch in my home made incubator and i have some questions:

1. What should i do when i recieve the eggs? I heard that i should leave them for 12 hours but at what temprature? And keep it inside the packaging or bring it out?

2. If there is low humidity during the first few days, will it cause a big problem?

3. I still dont understand what the best way to position the eggs is. Laying on its flat side or putting it in a egg carton? If in egg carton which side will be facing up?

hope you can help me thanks!

When I get my eggs-I open the package and the carton and leave them at room temp. overnight before I put them in the incubator.
I try to keep my humidity steady, but I have read on here that temp is more crucial that humidity early on in incubation-you just don't want it to go crazy high and stay there for very long.
As far as the position of the eggs goes, people do it both ways, so it's really up to you. If you do put them in the carton, small side goes down.
Hopefully someone can give you more info on hatching in the carton.
Good luck to you and happy hatching!

ETA I just saw a thread in the incubating and hatching section on your egg carton question-might want to check it out.

I have two incubators with a turner and one without. In the one without I use egg carton with the top cut off and the bottom of each cup, (this way the eggs still get the air as much as possible. For the first 18 days makes it a lot easier to turn them all equally. I just tilt the egg carton from side to side.

For Shipped eggs I remove them from all packaging put them in an egg carton with the small end down for at least 12 hours at room temp I do set on the floor as this is the coolest area in my house as to let the air sac settle back at the top before incubating.
