Good morning, all! What a great resource you have built here!
We're very new to chickens but I have a mentor and now this forum. We have two so far, a barred rock and California white. My friend is raising three Jersey Giants that will be added within the next month. The northern suburbs of Minneapolis is where we call home.
As we were searching for more info this site kept coming up, so I joined. We have three daughters and a big ol' dog to keep me busy. My family loves our back yard, we garden, have apple trees and other fruits. I also can garden goodies, brew and occasionally make wine.
Thanks for having us!
Tony

Hi Tony and welcome to our community.

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

All the best

Thanks for the welcomes and links! I forgot to mention we're kind of nuts about our Apache campers, too. 70's hardside pop-ups, too much fun. Ok, I'll go back to lurking and learning again. :P

Good morning from a newbie in PA we have 2 golden seabright bantam and four appenzeller Spitz, three are currently hatching babies and can't wait to see how they look!! Feeling very excited in PA

I have a question, how long do I allow the hens to sit on the other eggs that haven't hatched, I do believe they are at different stages because all the hens where laying in the same box. We started hatching on Sunday, well that's when we first saw and heard them. I have had to rescue three because of the hens kicking them out of the nest and not caring for them. I'm just worried about disturbing the hens, plus they are still very protective of the nest

When the girls go out for food and water you can try to candle them to see where they are in development, that will give you a better idea
