Very sick chicken, lethargic with diarrhea

I've had one with the same symptoms, so I gave her some calcium and a D capsule, today she laid a soft shelled egg. So if the egg has no shell and is stuck where it can still form shell, calcium might actually help her, it helped mine. I gave mine 500mg every other day three times. Give yours a bunch before you leave.

But if the egg is stuck there is a shell and there is no need for calcium. Especially if she alrady felt the egg

The OP said "Having examined her by touch I now think shes eggbound. Thanks for your advice, no she's not straining at all which is strange. Anyway I was thinking of giving her calcium." The OP did not say if they felt a hard shelled egg or just abdominal swelling. In the case of mine, I inserted a finger and felt a shell-less egg, and that was about a week ago... She laid the egg yesterday, but I didn't find it until just 20 minutes ago.

Thanks for your help

This may sound cold and insensitive, but you might want to do your own necropsy and see if you can find the problem. I have done a few, but I find it harder to do on the ones that I really care about, so I'll understand if you're not up to it.. Again, sorry for your loss.

I don't think I'd be prepared to do that...thanks anyway, though. We've already buried her.
