Very sick duck

Thanks, everybody. I am so appreciative for BYC and all of the advice. I am going to check the throat for worms and lungs for mold. If I find anything, I'll try to get some photos. At least then if someone else has a six bird and reads this thread, they'll have an idea of what the cause was and may be able to treat it sooner.

Love to you all

The gapeworm lives in the trachea, which starts at the base of the tongue.

The mouth and tongue were normal and clear. The trachea was clear from the tongue to the lungs. I did not see any worms. The lungs were pink, about the size of the first joint of your thumb and very full of mucous. I have never seen a normal duck lung so I really have nothing to compare it to.

My hands were gloved and I didn't grab my phone with them so I don't have photos. Nothing stood out to me to photograph.

I am not a vet, but I'd guess it was an infection/pneumonia that we didn't get medicine for in time.

We now have antibiotics Tulan50 and Safeguard dewormer on hand. So something good did come out of this. It all happened very quickly. Visual symptoms began Thursday, medications were injected and fed through a feeding tube Sat and Sun. He died Sun night.

So if you see your duck laying down when they're normally up or start to breathe funny, act fast.

I hope this helps someone.
