I have a hen - 2 1/2 years old who has a very swollen belly. I broke my foot last week so DH has been taking care of them. I think this has started a few days ago because I could see her sitting down when I checked on them from the window.
When I finally hobbled out there, she was hardly walking at all.
We picked her up and her belly is very swollen. She had lots of dirty vent feathers. He got me a tub and we gave her a warm bath and cleaned her off. He almost looked like she was going to lay an egg, but never did. We brought her inside and she ate a little.
This morning she pooped and it looked just like banana pudding and a plug of normal poop. It smelled really bad. I put my finger in her a bit yesterday and did not feel anything.
Could this be a yeast infection?
Or 'water belly' that I have read about? What causes that?
