If you decide to tube, try just 5cc's of fluids, check her crop to get a feel of what it feels like with a little fluid, wait an hour, if it's gone, give a little more.

She made it through the night, amazingly. She was looking pretty bad yesterday, heavy breathing with her mouth open. Really didn't expect her to make it through the day, but she did. I was preparing my son for her passing, as this is one of his fav chickens, by telling him that Max was going to go to heaven soon, but that it would be okay cuz she would be happy there. He was worried that she would be all alone. I reminded him that our little roo, Mack, we lost to a dog would be there waiting for her. He was relieved and as he stroked Max's head he said, "Don't worry Max, Mack will be in heaven to protect you. There are no dogs there that will eat you and my grandpas who died will be there too." It was precious. I think he is handling this a whole lot better than me.

She is eating and drinking a little bit on her own this morning. Will keep updating.

Glad to hear your son is coping well with her possibly passing. Sorry to hear she isn't doing well.

If she weights 3.6lbs that is 1.6kg.

Glad she made it through the night, but don't get your hopes up, open mouth breathing and drinking of water are often signs that the dying process has started. Fingers crossed for you.

You son sounds very brave, I still cry like a baby when mine get sick and look like they won't make it.

And slightly less if it she were 3 pounds 6 ounces, that's why I asked her to weigh again in grams, which she did and came back with 400 grams (see post 21). If the hen is in the 1.5- 1.6kg range, that wouldn't concern me too much, but if she does actually weigh 400 grams, that means she nothing but skin and bones.

It's possible the scale isn't functions properly considering she has two different weights. When she did the weight again it should have came out to 1632 grams if the initial weight was 3.6Lbs. I understand 400 grams is under one pound. The scales need to be checked for accuracy.

The 3.6 pounds is the accurate weight. I did the grams on a cheap kitchen scale and just looked and I actually did read it wrong. With the correct weight, is she still too small for antibiotics? My husband is planning on culling her tonight, but may hold off if you think that a last ditch chance of antibiotics may help.

I use a digital food scale (see avatar), not sure what the OP used, so not sure why they got those numbers, not possible on a scale like mine.

I would try the antibioics. Is she labour breathing, if so she will probably not last long. I have to mention worms, you said another chicken had the tape worms, its so easy for the others to get it, just pecking around on the ground they can get from the others. Are you tube feeding her? Get someone to hold her in a wrapped towel and then you can get the tube into her, she will squirm a bit initially, just have the other person hold her firmly.

I just weighed her again now and she is still 3.4 pounds converted to grams is 1542.21. I should have just went to an online converter instead of using that cheap kitchen scale.
