I have a hen that I thought was egg bound but after days of soaking and digging I can not find a egg in there. she is very painful up high but not so much at her vent. I have never dealt with an egg bound chicken but from everything I have read she shouldn't be alive still. shes been like this for at least 2 weeks. she walks like a penguin and can not move much. we are going to put her down tonight but we also have noticed rotten eggs the last few months.. could these have been from her? could she have something else going on? is there something I could do to either help her or check to see what is wrong? I dont want to affect the rest of my girls.

I'm sorry about your hen.

If she's been like this for a couple of weeks, then she's not eggbound - in the sense of having an egg stuck low enough in the cloaca to cause a blockage.

You mention that you've been finding rotten eggs for a few months - can you tell us more about those - were they intact "normal" looking eggs or were they more like Lash Egg (see link below)
Sadly from your description and the length of time you have been tending to her, It may be best to put her out of her misery since it sounds like she's in pain.

If you do decide that's best, then sending the body to your state lab for necropsy will give you some answers. Another option would be to perform your own investigation taking a look inside focusing on organs and the reproductive system a lot of times with reproductive problems you can see what was going on. If that's something you do, then take some photos - we will help you with what you see and it's a good way to learn more too.
