Very strange situation! WARNING VER Y GRAFFIC!

Someone else could have pecked it open as well. I just found it very strange. Im still sad, she was such a beautiful girl!

Here she is right after we extracted the egg.

She looks awful roo-ish for 5 months....

At any rate, Im very, very sorry for your loss. I just lost a hen myself tonight.

If she was full of infection, then that injury was a long time coming. I'm thinking the tissues were probably necrotic (rotting) inside her, and her first egg took the path of least resistance.

You were so right to put her down! You did her a huge favor, for sure!

Thank you everyone! I have two more younger girls which have filled her spot, which is a good thing. (thank you you Tori and Toni!) I was rather worried my roo would be hen-less until next spring.

Yea, she defiantly wasn't a roo. Unless he/she had an identity crisis.

I wanted to keep the egg and it hatch it since it came out without much of a problem, but with the infection she
had going on I thought it might be a futile attempt and just discarded it.

That is what it looks like to me too. It looks like some form of attack. Egg bound eggs can be found in the vent, carefully broken and removed peice by peice. That looks likeback of hip bone or hernia.
