I have 3 chickens. My 2 1/2 year old Bramah has gradually become very thin. It feels like there is no tissue on each side of her breast bone. She is still laying (laid today) and voraciously eats sardines and mealworms. I don't know if she's eating regular food but at noon today her crop felt empty. Her abdomen is soft. No lice or mites. She did have a very poopy feathers around her vent that had built up over time I believe. I cleaned that up yesterday and the skin is a normal color. I attached a picture of her latest poop. She has been getting thinner over the past several weeks. She is walking around normally. Her diet is organic layer pellets and I give mealworms and black sunflower seeds as treats. The sardines are to put some weight on her and I just tried this today. Their bedding is wood chips (not cedar). The coop and run were deep cleaned after the second hen died. During the day they free range in the back yard.
The odd behavior is that she comes up and sits by my French doors and watches me in the house more than usual. She is also docile about being held. Normally she would be struggling to get away. The thinness and docile behavior are exactly what the other two hens exhibited before they died.
All the hens are 2 1/2. I lost one in December and one in early April. I wormed them in November with Wayzine and it didn't seem to make a difference.
I just administered Valbazen for worms yesterday.
In Southern California our hens are under quarantine for Newcastle disease, so I can't take her to a vet or take a fecal sample in for testing. I'm hoping for some ideas from experienced chicken people. This is my first flock.
