Duck_feeder,
I was hoping to get some good detail on this. Thanks! While we are doing okay, the information I've received so far has been lacking detail such as you just provided. Great help!
They do get a balanced ration as their base nutrition (organic layer mash). Since they are foraging a bit, they are also getting additional food that is not necessarily so balanced. I will look into including some of the fish foods you recommended in their diet. I'm on a learning curve, and I appreciate your help.
Everyone has been doing fine as far as I can tell until some weeks ago, by the way. We've just hit a bump in the road, I think.
I'm adding a good quality cat kibble to their food daily, and that has vitamin d in it from chicken and lamb liver and cholicalciferol.
In addition to free choice oyster shell, I'm tossing a couple of handfuls of oyster shell in with each serving of the layer mash and kibble combo. I pour some water in to make the mash easier to eat, and to dissolve some of the powdery oyster shell so every mouthful has caclium in it.
Again, I appreciate the suggestions for the fish and the details on getting supplements and medicine down the hatch. And of course, the reward nearby is great. So far Sieben has been just wonderful with us. We still seem to have a good relationship. We are almost done with the Neocalglucan. And no softshelled eggs since a few days ago.
Trulyl, I hope others can benefit from this public discussion of what to do to prevent and treat mineral deficiency.
If you think of anything else to pass along, please add it.
