One of my hens made a nest in a a dirt pile. Not a good spot to hatch anything, cause of predators. I been missing eggs for a few days now thinking they been laying in the woods. So I moved the eggs into a dog crate sans hens and she is sitting on them now.
But my question is..
They where cold as can be.. During the night they are locked into a coop and she went back on them this morning , thats how I found the nest.
What are the odds of them making it ? There are 12 eggs I think. If they went cold during the nights and she didnt sit on them..what are the chances they are still good? I hate for her to be locked up for 20 days and not hatching any out after all. Now I been missing eggs for like 4 days or so..That means 4 nights of cold and no body heat..or maybe even more nights.. cant say for sure.

Dont have an incubator and I just got rid of the rooster. So that would be the last batch or the last few eggs that where fertilized..
And i dotn want to bu ya incubator for jus tthese eggs..I wasnt planning on hatching any eggs actually.. so if they dont hatch is ok also.. But if she is willing to sit on them.. might as well it

Petra,

They don't start developing until she starts sitting, if she was returning to the coop at night she wasn't really sitting yet. If they aren't developing, she'll kick them out of the nest. If she rolls one out don't put it back in.

I doubt they will hatch. The cold probably killed them! But post pictures if they hatch!
